Barely into the year and its party time already and that too in a spectacular fashion.
Mumbai city’s most popular cultural festival, The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is starting this coming weekend i.e. 2nd Feb and will go on till the 10th Feb. To more on the events, competitions and workshops, you can hop over to the festival’s official blog – The Kala Ghoda Gazette.
I plan to attend most of the days, if not all. And have enrolled myself in a Freelance Journalism Workshop, which will be conducted by Kavita Rao. Detailed information on the same can be found here, along with the enrollment procedure. Only 20 seats avaliable, so move your butt fast.
If any of you Mumbai folks will be or are interested in attending the Kala Ghoda festivities this coming weekend i.e. 2nd and 3rd Feb, maybe we could hook-up there. Just leave me a note in the comment section or email me and we can take it up from there.

Nobody said it was easy
It’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Aww take me back to the start

You will be greatly missed.

Sameer Nair’s highly ambitious and the most talked about Indian television channel, NDTV Imagine was launched yesterday with much (exaggerated) fanfare. Though I have to admit in spite of hiring almost all well-known faces of the (not-so-small-anymore) desi-television Industry, NDTV Imagine never really grabbed my attention. My logic is quite simple – all Hindi channels cater to similar target audience, therefore a new entrant in actuality cannot afford to be different. All they do is present us with old goods, only in new packaging. And quite frankly, I am very much content with investing my spare time in BBC Entertainment – which is in fact a refreshing break from all the American crap we have been subjected to off-late.
However one of the so-called sensational shows on Imagine that caught my eye (during the publicity phase) and happened to be home on time to catch it on the idiot box was, yet again, a reality show named Say Shaava Shaava.
From the looks of it, Say Shaava Shaava had everything going for it.

Australian Cricket Team, best in the world - no doubt.
Australian Cricket Team, brilliant role models – don’t think so.
Australian Cricket Team, example of sportsmanship – freaking no way.
UPDATE
The on-going drama in the international cricketing arena has been so much entertaining than any reality show aired till date; it’s seriously getting difficult to concentrate at work. However on a serious note, here are some of the best write-ups on the above, I have read so far.

Well not me, for sure.
Looking at the comment section, it seems some of you folks missed out the point behind my previous post. I guess at times even the simplest of thoughts can get twisted and molded into something completely opposite.
And so here is my second attempt – hopefully this time round I won’t be misquoted.
Not even once have I blamed the “women” who were unfortunate that night nor will I ever blame a woman who has gone thru an ordeal of such kind. As I mentioned in the post and am repeating again - Rowdy crowd and sexually sick men don’t just thrive in selected cities, they are everywhere. And therefore one needs to act sensible and make wise decisions.
The point of women being “drunk” out of their senses was an observation. I was at a high-class party, filled with the so called educated masses. The thing is - Rape or Sexual Abuse be it provoked or not, is not justified…period but the reality is that it still happens. Of course we should raise our voices against such atrocities, demand “attitudinal change” and work towards a better society but till we accomplish this goal…one must act in a responsible manner towards one’s own safety. It’s just like asking people not to drink & drive or wear condoms.
As I mentioned in my post as well, it’s no crime in having a fantastic time, making merry with friends and loved ones… I do that too but there is always a limit (and this goes for both the sexes). But when you can’t even stand on your feet, you even take away the means of protecting yourself (and others around you) if the need arises. And the sad truth is - women are more vulnerable under these circumstances. And therefore, it’s best to always be in control of the situation and not place yourself in a state where you are at mercy of another.
[In case you still don’t get it, then I suggest you read hers…hopefully this will clear out the air. And now me off too cooling my heels while watching Balls of Fury.]
