Mumbai Molestation: Better Sense Must Prevail

mumbaigirls

After bringing in the New Year at a suburban hotel, a friend suggested that we should head to the nearby beach and watch the sunrise. No, he was not drunk and nor were we. It was just an innocent suggestion, after all this is “amchi Mumbai” – a city rated much higher on the safety scale when compared to others in this nation of sex starved bastards. Thankfully, better sense succeeded and we headed off to another friend’s pad for (an early) morning coffee instead.

And the next day, this is what our daily tabloids read out loud - Mob molests 2 women on New Year’s Day.

Aamir Khan, the Director Vs. Akshay Kumar, the Entertainer.

If only Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Halla Bol had been in the running among this week’s Bollywood releases, we could have been in for much louder Box-Office dhamaka, something even King Khan wouldn’t have anticipated with his dud Diwali release.

But as they say, not everyone can face full frontal competition; Ajay Devgan and his Halla Bol team backed out at the very last minute. In Mr. Santoshi’s own words, “We decided to postpone the film as three films releasing on the same day (December 21) would harm everyone’s business.” What a bumper no? I thought after making many successful brave heart films, Raj Kumarji would have learnt something from them. I guess practice what you preach, doesn’t fit in his “To Do” list.

Anyway, looking at the two films released this Friday – Here is my tippany on them.

And The Mahajan Saga Continues…

Couple of days back Shweta Mahajan decided to legally end her (barely a yearlong) marriage with Rahul Mahajan, son of murdered BJP minister Pramod Mahajan.

The wife of Rahul Mahajan, son of the late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, on Thursday filed a divorce petition in a local court in Gurgaon.

Shweta has filed for divorce on grounds of incompatibility and mutual consent of both parties. [Link]

rahulmahajan Nothing really shocking, if you take into account the history of this relationship. In November 2006, a local Mumbai tabloid came out with an exclusive – declaring Mahajan Jr. a wife beater. According to this report, Rahul had been physically and verbally abusing his wife of two and a half months.

And then, like it happens in most such high profiled news items; both the parties i.e. Rahul and Shweta denied the rift in their fragile marriage and labelled the news story as nothing but a ploy to destroy young Mahajan’s political career.

Sookhe Naale Mein Behtee Huee Laash

Wondering about the title? Well this is all I remember from last night. Nope I was not drunk, a little high would be more like it. And then again I did no wrong; after all one turns 28 only once in a lifetime.

My birthday bash had all the ingredients of a Bollywood potboiler – Naach Gaana, Emotional turning points, Crude Jokes, Screaming Neighbor, Childhood Flashback, Appealing Eye Candy(s), Chicken & Daru, (Some) really bad Goof-ups and above all, Realization of Meaningful Friendships.

Here are a few snippets –

Good Things & Bad Things

So the other night four of us (I, a close friend, a good friend and just a friend) were having dinner at a suburban restaurant, when the good friend (the innovative one of the lot) came up with a suggestion.

"Let’s play a game", he said.

And so we began – each of us had to talk out loud five good qualities and three bad ones in others seated on the table. Though I was not very keen, it just sounded like one of those corporate exercises, I was left with no option but be part of the group.

After nearly half hour of round-table discussion, the overall consensus was something like this.
