Broken and Crushed

Thoughts of a fan switch off (pun unintended)

Driving back home last night was probably the longest in a very long time. And no, it had nothing to do with the infamous Mumbai traffic in fact it was a breeze (something I would have cherished on any other given night). I guess my vulnerable self was the reason behind it. I was disheartened and not so professionally as much as, a fan.

I couldn’t help but wonder. Here is a woman who has struggled for 8+ years in an industry where only the fortunate few survive and many perish with consecutive Fridays. A woman who was perceived as nothing more than a cheap thrill, blame it all on the ‘item girl’ tag. A woman who got lucky by fate, all thanks to a reality show – she spoke out loud, called a spade a spade, fear was not her forte. Her earthiness became addictive. We, the masses were in love and as they say the rest is history.

But at that moment alone in car, I found myself questioning her very substance and realizing the gullibility of an ardent fan. All previously written words felt wasted, alas perceptions had changed. All in a matter of few hours and the experience was somewhat like, witnessing a beautiful face brought closer to reality, with each layer of makeup peeled off.

For professional reasons I can’t elaborate much on my disgust however will sum it up in the most befitting (and most often tossed) phrase: Stardom changes everything and everyone.

And in case you are wondering about the interview. Well it never happened. Yes,

despite a prior confirmed appointment.

despite many minuscule interactions with her during the entire schedule.

despite an assurance from the lady herself of a dedicated 30 minutes.

despite patiently waiting for almost 7 hours

I was left clueless with Bollywood’s patent excuse “not in the mood”.

If the mag still wants their Rakhi story, I’d say grit your teeth, reschedule, get the interview and make sure that the pain of getting the interview is in the story.

But then, I’m not the one who has to do the running around all over again. :(

hmmm…
I guess she so much wants to be part of the top brass, she wants to act like them too.

i have often wondered abt the whole process of when a person becomes famous and how that person deals with it.. for instance.. what all changes will happen in Abhinav Bindra now?

Ohh…I’m so sorry. I was never a fan of the so called ‘lady’ but I surely know what this must feel like. I was left distraught when news about Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja was confirmed. And you had to see her face-to-face…

Chin up, girl! Sallu bhai, here comes Saks…

How effed up do you have to be to be an RS fan, anyway? This just might be the singular best thing that happened to you.

If it’s any consolation it must be tough for her to have to be available to so many people all the time. To be stared at in every restaurant and shop she goes to, to have her personal life written about (both untrue and even harder true stuff), etc. I guess almost as a method of self preservation they have to listen to the inner cry which sometimes says ‘I don’t have the strength just now’ and be honest to that and take a break.

Heart breaking !!! Really, if I had been in your place I would have just given it a skip when ignored the first time around. Really admire your persuasive attitude. I am sure there are many lessons to be learned for everyone. Best of it all, you would be much better co-ordinated and prepared for characters like such.

BEST OF LUCK for your pursuits …

That is so disgusting and so very unprofessional. I wish the magazine in question would publish an article about all that you went through to get an interview with the lady. Perhaps there are more fans out there who’d benefit from the real picture?

And what was the whole “bring sleeping bag” thing about? Told you, it was supposed to be a sleepover ;)

That said, what does your magazine say? Or since you are freelancing, it’s all “do it yourself”?

If you really want. to test a person’s character, give him/her power(fame in this case)

Best wishes for you !
I’m sure you will emerge stronger and victorious from this incident.

Well my dear Saks, sometimes you have to learn the hard way. Never mind, nothing lost. Just some wisdom gained. These Bollywood idols (read: losers) are not worth worshipping.

“Not in the mood” – what a lame excuse – though I guess that’s more honest than she’s “indisposed.” Just remember – success is the best revenge and I am sure you will become successful one day and she will be banging on your door for an interview. Though you have to wonder – do you want that kind of success? Cause then you may turn out like her!

Hopefully your Rakhi Sawant obsession will come to an end now.

Thank you all for you kind and (some) not-so-kind words. Shit happens, I know. :)
