Sale Kameene Spam Wale Tera Muh Kala

Pardon my Hindi here guys but seriously I am so bloody ticked off with this whole spamming facade. Since last night I have deleted exactly 187 spam comments. And guess what? They keeping popping back up.

spam

Really, what the fuck! I mean here I believed myself to be “invincible”; armed with all the latest spam blocking bazookas. Then this bloody sucker appears from nowhere and in matter of hours manages to infect my sterile blogging space like some freaking jet-fuelled virus.

no-spam And so to fight the infectious attack of the Spam Kameena, I call upon my fellow blog Superheroes to help me get thru this extremely annoying crisis. To make matters easier, here is a low-down on the current situation.

1. I am currently using Spam Karma 2.3.

2. Marking them as Spam in the comment moderation page has made zilch of a difference.

3. Blacklisting of the IP address also proved to be useless because they were back on with different address.

4. It looks to be following some sort of a pattern – moving from one post to another and never spamming a single post twice.

5. I cannot use Akismet Spam plugin, it’s like my kryptonite – manages to screw up my trackback/linkback plugin.

So there you have it my knight(s) in shining armor(s). Desperately need to sort this crisis today itself because I will be spending my entire weekend at the Kala Ghoda Festival and accessing the Internet looks to be highly unlikely.

Toh help karo jaldi or very soon I will be running around the office yelling “Bachoo Bachoo” ekdum filmy ishtyle.

How about this? Somewhat similar to what Blogger has, instead of inserting random text, u answer a basic arithmetic question. It would be a problem if there is a reader who is abysmally bad at math but the plugin seems pretty decent.
There is an image authorization plugin too, similar to what blogger has if you prefer that.
If I come across something better I’ll let you know.

what about akismet.

that really works on such stuff.

Ive seen similar attacks but akismet eats them up gladly

Few suggestions:
1) Remove the META named “generator” from the header, that gives away your Wordpress version.
2) I use a very good plugin http://www.hybrid6.com/webgeek/plugins/wp-spamfree with Akismet and it works very well.
3) As and when you get time, notice the posts that get most spam pings/comments, then edit that post and close pings/comments on that post. Sure this will stop all conversation but older posts seldom get any comments anyways.

Fianlly comes the super advice that you can trust (yet again!!!!) – CAPTCHA is what you should always use. Every single https site uses it (including godaddy.com). Just sign up on http://recaptcha.net/whyrecaptcha.html and you are all set to add it up as a security mechanism (Encryption technology: HASH) on your blog :)

First I read that Manish’s (ultrabrown) website got hacked. Now I find you are getting methodically spammed. It’s making me rethink whether I really should shift to self-hosted WP.

Did your spam problem resolve itself then?

Lekhni – I too heard what happened with Manish’s blog, something on same lines had happened with me as well couple of months back. As for the spam, well this was something completely unexpected – overall I must have deleted at least 400 comments. Thank God, things are back to normal.

But on the other hand self-hosted WP comes with tons of benefits, such resolvable issues shouldn’t discourage you. :)

TGFI – LOL! Well to be honest I am quite content with my own stock, driving in Mumbai city helps a lot in this department however, I shall keep your offer in mind. ;)

I’ll look forward to a post “Spam problem solved” – I need a solution too.
