The Reality Behind Reality Shows

So my favorite Jodi No. 3 aka Rakhi Sawant & her beau Abhishek Awasthi missed out on winning the Nach Baliye crown. Small screen starlets Sanjeeda Sheikh and Aamir Ali walked away with first prize of Rs.2 million, a car and their choreographers Arun and Chetan won Rs.1 million.

sallu001 No sooner the results were out my cell phone practically went in frenzy mode; text messages, emails and comments on posts related to Rakhi Sawant & Nach Baliye. All wanting to know how the fan was coping with her icon’s loss, some were even expecting a venomous post in retaliation. But honestly speaking, I really don’t give a flying fuck. And no, it’s not the “grapes are sour” sort-ta emotion. In fact I didn’t even watch the finale episode; I was out with friends having a blast while Madam Sawant was shedding (allegedly) crocodile tears. My indifference can also be measured by the fact, that I didn’t even watch the show for my darling Sallu (Salman Khan).

So the question here is – If I don’t give a shit, why the heck am I writing a post about it?

To which my reply is – This post is for those speculating my sudden change of mindset when just the other day I was urging my blog readers to vote for Rakhi.

rakhi006

In all honesty once again, yes I did wish for Sawant to win just as I did when she was called back in Bigg Boss House; not only because I am a fan but also because I truly believed she deserved to win on both occasions. But if you are familiar with the workings of the Indian Television Industry and take into account the results of other similar reality shows, it isn’t hard enough to figure out that “manipulation” is the ONLY final outcome.

Nope, I am not following Rakhi’s lead here. Like you I too believe the woman is creating hubala hoo just to appease her controversial nature. But then again why shouldn’t she? Don’t many of our well-known Bollywood celebrities follow similar tactics! Then why should she be singled out and tagged as “Dramebazz”.

To further elaborate my point, here are some of the reasons why I believe Jodi No. 3 were never in the running for Nach Baliye title.

1. The weeks before the finale an inside source had revealed the results to me. Her precise words were, “Rakhi will reach the finals but not win”. Now it’s a different thing that I didn’t pay attention to it. Rumours and Gossips are part and parcel of the Entertainment Industry.

2. It’s no hidden fact – Rakhi was only welcomed in the show for TRP reasons. Koffee with Karan episode featuring the Item Queen is what sealed the above decision.

3. Kashmeera Shah was included only to further spice up the drama effect.

4. If you look at the recent result of the rival show Jhalak Dikhlaja 2, even a 3rd degree moron would be able to figure out that Snooty Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Balaji Productions had a major role to play in Prachi Desia’s victory. Similarly, Nach Baliye 3‘s winning couple too happen to be in Ekta Mata’s paltu pet list.

5. Besides upper-hand influence, by declaring their own daily soap actors as winners, network channels tend to gain a lot in terms of TRPs, show popularity, news publicity, etc.

6. Perfect example of the above – Mona Singh winning over Shweta Salve in Jhalak Dikhlaja Season 1. Mona Singh had then just finished Sony’s popular tele-show, “Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin”. Also if rumours are to be believed, Sony was looking for a perfect platform to re-launch Mona Singh, since they wanted to make her the front face of the channel.

7. The notion that Reality Show judges only play a small role and everything rests with the audience – this is nothing but a popular misconception.

And I could go on and on and on, by citing examples of other Reality Shows like Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007, Indian Idol 3, Amul Star Voice of India, etc but I won’t (since I do believe you folks are smart enough to understand my point).

Final Conclusion – As a Rakhi Sawant fan, I am happy despite her loss because I have full faith in her ability to milk out every drop of opportunity from this defeat, be it terms of popularity, future project offers and money.

However as a devoted desi-dabba viewer, I feel cheated; so no more SMS voting for me from here on.

Ha! Did she really lose? Considering the publicity from this, I think it will out-last anything anyone could have done for Aamir-Sanjeeda (who they?) Besides, who said La Sawant is a dancer/actress? Rakhi baby is an entertainer and she delivers the goods every time! Cheers to the gutsy mulgi!

Actually, what I felt wrong was, her behaviour in the end.. she was like “Damn, No one else can be the winner, in every show, I should be the winner” She was crying like a kid and she just left the show.. I think this was again one bad attempt to get more eyes on her.. nothing much.. once that was done, she even raised the issues over incorrect vote counting..

I know these kind of problems arise.. but she should learn to accept the reality..

Hey what do you expect her to stand there and cheer up when the _so_called winners were being felicitated???
at any damn show first the second runner up is paid attention then they go forward with the winners!

She doesn’t need to cheer up but she should at least should not create mess. When 2 teams play against each other, the losing team never starts showing attitude, crying and leaving the game / show before it ends..

If she couldn’t win, Okay, we agree, she was good but still she could not win for some or other reason but that’s not the end of the life right? Crying and creating a scene is not gonna give her the winning trophy lol

well i still doubt was she working for the 2 million rs as said above or for publicity????
she has got enough by doing the drama, which was essential for her i guess… i read in hindustan times she is getting some 5.5 millions(correct me if i am wrong) for a stage performance..

It was more for publicity.. 20 lakhs should not be a big deal for her but what I personally feel that, something hit her ego or something.. because the behaviour she was showing just did not fit in my mind… it was not like any 2nd runnerup would do.. she was behaving like “I was supposed to win, how come they won, you had promised me that you will make me win..”

But these are just assumptions as it is not possible to know what exactly must have happened..

Rakhi deserved to win and there are no questions about it. Star Plus used her as a bait for show’s popularity and tossed her aside once the job was done.

We Indians don’t believe that something could be done in a professional manner as we ourselves don’t do it professionally. Also we tend to take side of loser casting aspersions on the show.

I was also favourably inclined to view Rakhi and abhishek as the probable winner. Once Amir and sajida won , my wife jumped with joy while I was dismayed. I asked her that Rakhi seems to be a better dancer , why you are not taking her side. Her exact words were, she is dramebaaz and looks very cheap while Amir and sanjida looks very graceful and their dances were very soothing.

She had this negative feelings even when watching Big Boss(indian version)

I was little taken aback by her response.Rakhi , somehow seems to have developed very negative image. And such shows are mostly watched by women of the house with male counterpart not much allowed to vote unless it is for Her favorite. I am sure Rakhi lost because of negative image among viewers( read Housewives).

There is no need for star plus to rig the show for tiny sum of 20 lakh prize money when they are getting huge sums by SMSes, whoever wins. And Sanjida and Amir are already good actor/actress on small screen.

It was Rakhi , who needed much boost and got it. They are also hellbent upon making the most of the controversy. Such cheap gimmick would not take her far.

In retrospect I also feel Amir and Sanjida really deserved to win, though I never vote for any such shows nor my wife does it .Rakhi’s behavior was undignified in the least.

So true. Rakhi and Abhishek deserved to win. They were the best among the lot, Aamir and Sanjida only got ahead because of the TV Channel’s manupilation. Its in fact very brave of Rakhi to come ahead and face the such powerful people head on.

Good on you Rakhi and Abhishek.
