Jhalak Dikhla Ja 2: Mona Singh Gets On My Nerves

I have been meaning to do a post on one of Sony Network’s popular reality show for a very long time now. But just could never find the time to do so and yes, I have responsibilities in the off-line world as well.

Frankly speaking, Jhalak Dikhla Ja’s previous was undoubtedly very impressive – Farah Khan was ruthless, Shipla Shetty added the “oomph” factor, Farah Khan’s ex-boyfriend’s outburst was hilarious and for some reason, I find Archana Puran Singh’s face really very amusing. But when I realized how heavily the channel was pushing one of their very own, which was totally unfair on other contestants, I switched over to another tele-show. Television actress, Mona Singh may have begun her career with a “glossy” bang which many aspirants can only dream off but do you really think she has lived up to the hype that Sony Channel has (superficially) created around her.

Seriously yaar, I just can’t stand this woman. I find her holier than thou portrayal quite irritating and the whole “Look I am so bubbly” behavior is way too sugary coated, so much so, I am sacred if I watch her for long I might end being a diabetic patient. Okay, that was a lame joke but hopefully you get the point. However, the worst for me was when she was declared the sole winner of Jhalak Dikhla Ja, while the most deserving contestant, Shweta Salve was left empty handed. To this day I believe Mona Singh’s victory was a fabrication, Sony wanted to re-launch her and Jhalak Dikhla Ja was the perfect platform.

And it didn’t stop there, even with JDJ 2, initially Shweta was signed to host the show but without a notice, my gal was again replaced by what’s her face, ya rite, Mona Singh.

After watching the first episode last night, I have to agree that JDJ 2 is looking far more promising than Nach Baliye 3 but the inclusion of the Mona factor is a huge turn-off for me. I mean the way she was laughing, more like hee.haw.ing, it felt as if the Sony bosses had pumped up x numbers of laughing gas into her. And matching her equally pathetic antics was her co-host, the extra-loud Rohit Roy.

However on the positive side, the new season judges are far better than the likes of Isha Koppikar and David Dhawan. Though I still can’t figure out as why choreographer Shaimak Davar’s Hindi speaking skills are so c-grade considering the fact that he is from Mumbai city and works in the Hindi Film Industry. On the other hand, no matter how well Ms. Urmila Matondkar’s Hindi diction may be, she still sounds so crass.

Participants wise, I love Sandhya Mridul and having someone like Cyrus Broacha, the ever-ready-talking-battery, can only guarantee much more entertainment. The other 10 celebrities include the likes of Indian Idol host Mini Mathur, famous dancer and TV actress Sodha Chandran, Music Director Aadesh Srivastava and former Indian Hockey Coach Mir Ranjan Negi (the Chak De dude), actress Sonali Kulkarni and one other television actress. Oh! And did I mention, it also stars that “stinking blob of crap” named Mika Singh.

So yeah overall season two of Jhalak Dikhla Ja maybe better but as long as Rakhi Sawant is there on Nach Baliye 3, nothing else matters.

I agree with u. Mona singh is just too much! Dont understand why she has to laugh so much..
true, shweta salve was much more deserving. her loosing to mona was really sad.
but i really liked urmila, think she is better than shilpa who was just adding oomph to the show.

The contestants keep me watching the show. I love Sandhya, but I hope she does not lose due to less popularity. Prachi Desai may be a sweet girl, and I think Mona is one too. But it makes me mad when more deserving contestants lose just because they are not all sugary sweet all the time.

Wow…I am so glad to read your post…you completely echo when it comes to Mona Singh…I hated it when Shweta Salve who was obviously a better dancer lost to popular Mona Singh….Shweta would have made better host..she has the desired elan for this stylish show….I saw her looking gorgeous in both Jhlak and Left RIght Left..sad we ignore talent like this..

we have similar views on Sandhya, Cyrus and Mika…do check them out on my blog: link

Poonam – Hey, thanks for dropping by. Read your post and I so totally agree with you. Hopefully Ms. Mona will tone down herself (though I wonder whether that will get me to like her) and that Mika needs a kick where it hurts the most. ;)

As I say, Rakhi Baby Rocks! :)

Tough the luxury of television watching is not something so akin to our daily hostel routine, still sometimes over the mess table i caught glimses of NB3 and JDJ2(on different occasions that is.).
Mona Singh is way to “he-haa-haaa” for a host. And rohit roy has those pre rehearsed lines which he delivers at decibles too high than they are meant to be.
I saw a Mika Performance and i found the judges a little lenient coz after a not-so-happenin performance teh judges were still all praise.
Overall the show might do well, riding on the reality-meets-dance fever. Actually there shud be some survey as to how big is the reality tv market is? and yes..
Lookin forward to those inter-judges fights :D
BTW this was my first visit to ur blog…
awsome stuff in here..luved it.

It is not fair that they have contenstants that belong to Balaji Telefilms (Ronit, etc) while Jetandra is judging and Shiamak’s students (Sandhya, etc) while Shiamak is judging. Then there are others with a lot of dancing background when this show is supposed to be about those who have never danced before. It is only people like Adesh, Mini, Negi, Cyrus and Mika who have no dance experience and are the true contenstants. It is up to the public who has to compensate for the bias of judges in the show by voting for the true and brave contestants.
