Review RGV Ki Aag: Sort off Bukwaas

Yes…Yes…yes, I went for Ramu’s re-vamped version of yester-years cult flick, Sholay. Despite the "red" bold warnings flashing on my tele-screen, despite the solid "black" critical reviews across all daily tabloids and despite humble "blue" pleads from family and friends; but as they say, a Bollywood maniac is gotto do…what a Bollywood maniac is gotto do.

On the bad side, I went ahead with my disastrous plan in the company of mum. But on the good side, I had forewarned of all the not-so-happy feedbacks. Anyway, getting back to the review, in order to help you understand better Ram Gopal Varma’s most controversial film, here is the actual scenario of the movie session I went for.

Film: Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag

Theatre: PVR, Juhu.

City: Mumbai

Ticket Price: Rs. 250 (now don’t look all shocked, this is after all Mumbai meri jaan)

10.45: Show Begins, Total occupants, 57.

11.15: Total show occupants, 46.

11.50: Interval

12.00: Post Interval, Total show occupants 35.

12.30: Total show occupants, 28.

12.45: Total show occupants, 21.

12.55: Total show occupants, 16.

1.00: Total show occupants, 13.

1.05: Total show occupants, 11.

1.15: The End, Total show occupants, 07.

1.17: Standing ovation, yaar not for the film, the audience of course.

Okay, now on a slightly serious note, I actually didn’t find the movie to be all that bad. Now this could also be because I had prepared myself for the worse (or I have become immune to Ramu’s style of churning out mediocre films), an out-n-out pathetic film. If you don’t compare it (which I agree, is really hard not to) with the original, RGV’s Aag is your regular gansta meets masala meets early 80s kind-da movie.

At times slow paces, seriously so slow that you could yawn, stretch you legs and dig into your popcorn only to realize that the main protagonists on the screen, haven’ moved a muscle. From the elaborate star cast, the only worth mentioning is Amitabh Bachchan who plays the role of evil Baban – creepy sometimes and other times appears to be a retard.

As for Ram Gopal Varma’s direction, well do I really need to emphasis on that? Nope, I don’t think so.

Parting words- I am proud to say that I survived Ramu’s torturous Agni pariksha while my mum slept through it all.

(Somewhere in the city, I can imagine the Sippys hosting week-end long celebration. What for? Oh! Come on, I know you aren’t that naive).

lol, Saks, I’m sure the ONLY reason you didn’t fall asleep yourself is because you were counting the occupants in the show every so often!!! lol

On another note, did I not just KNOW you would like the film?!!

The only question I have on the movie is WHY? WHY? did Mr. Amithabh Bachchan and Mr. Mohanlal agree to this movie?

I have put together all the bad, worse, worst reasons to watch the movie… there are just one reason why you should still watch the movie – Mr. AB….

Hey buddy…i guess am in the same boat as u r in…an absolute movie buff like me n now including u 2 in the picture, hardly dislikes any movie…but this ramu ki aag…am surprised how am still alive although it wasnt any less than committing suicide…all the characters were total waste n why the hell all of them…esp mr.AB had to overact to the extent that he never seemed to be the negative character but a complete joker (on top of it, the name Babban, suits a character like Rajpal Yadav more than Gabbar’s counterpart); his weird expressions were rather funny than scary… infact now mothers would tell their children that better get ready for a sweet dreamy sleep coz Babban uncle would come and make you laugh with his comic acts…I dont understand why all the other actors like Ajay Devgan and Sushmita Sen wanted to be a part of this blockbuster flop show where they just had to over-react on every dialog and underact for every little scene, respectively, that they had in the movie…alltogether it was disastrous and pathetic…sorry, actually disastrous and pathetic would be an understatement!

I watched this movie yest and despite being the labor day weekend, there were 5 ppl in the audience (including my friend and i). I went in after reading all the trashy reviews and disappointing promos just to see how badly he could remake the cult classic. Well, it was a spoof, but a rather annoying one.

Must not see: Amitabh’s nose digging (ewwww), close up of the sweaty pores on his face.

As they say better late than never, Ramu KaKa has realised his mistake and is trying to make ammends.

I did go wrong. The one person I must have made supremely happy is Ramesh Sippy! I’m very happy to make him happy, because he made my life. I watched Sholay again last night. It’s fantastic. I must’ve been nuts to attempt it. All my impressions of Sholay over the years went into making Aag. Now, I ask myself, ‘If someone else had made Aag, how would I as a Sholay fan react?’ I’d probably hate it as much as most people. The original is too deeply embedded in the public’s psyche. Hi all,

you said it right “Bollywood maniac is gotto do…what a Bollywood maniac is gotto do” i too committed a mistake by watching this pathetic movie…my Rs.100 note would have worth even more then it. None of the actors acted worthily…even the presence of Amitabh Bachchan could not save this film. every one was hamming to its hilt. The only time i got some amount of relax, while watching this movie was INTERVAL, after eating costly samosas and gulping cold dirnk, i gathered some more stamina to watch the remaining part.

Actually apart from the film being a cult bore, the cinema hall in which i was watching movie had a major defect……and that was…..the direction of its seats as towards the screen…………

Darling, there are way too many grammatical errors in your style of writing. Almost every paragraph has a grammatical error or two.

Going my the number of comments posted here, you seem to be a popular writer.

Do work on your grammar. It helps.

Psychsndy : Thanks. But you know where I come from, you can simply F*** Off (And don’t bother to look for grammatical errors here ;) )

Darling two things:

1. “You can simple”? The correct phrase in this context is “you can simply”.

2. I don’t know “where you come from”, but your insult would have been more effective if I wasn’t on the floor laughing.

Know this darling. Illiteracy, it’s a bitch.
