Sunday morning was lazy, relaxing and stuffed with home-made Chana Bhaturas along with Mango Lassi, yes my aunt is an absolute Rock star. Afternoon was spent watching Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (shall review it later) at PVR in Vasant Vihar.
But it’s the evening we are more concerned about.
Started off with some Chow Mein Noodles from a local thelawala at East Patel Nagar. Now Hakka Noodles are quite different in Delhi as compared to Mumbai, as in when we talk Hakka Noodles its basically Soya Sauce and Chilly Vinegar based however it Delhi they also mix the Schezwan Sauce and therefore its known as Chow Mein.

Again if you are particular about cleanliness, hygiene and all those sort of things than this place isn’t for you. But if like me you too are a road-side junkie than this ain’t bad and the portion is good enough for two people with decent appetite.

Focus of Attention – Chow Mein Noodles
Where – East Patel Nagar
Price – Rs. 35 only

For dinner we headed to one of the most famous Kebabs joint in New Delhi.
Focus of Attention – Kakori Kebab
Where – Salim’s Kababs
Location – Khan Market
Now this is mostly a take-away joint in summers. Salim’s Kababs is a tiny corner stall, which opens it shutters only in the evening after 4.00pm. And boy! Is this place crowded or what. A good 15 minutes wait is for sure but on the other hand it’s totally worth it.

Salim’s Kakori Kebab is its main specialty – minced lamb meat stuffed with onions, spicy masala and wrapped in Roomali Roti. One such kebab is good enough to fill up a “normal†appetite. Though I found it more on the expensive side, around Rs. 80/- but I guess people here don’t mind it so it’s all cool. I have also heard that if you come here with kids than you get first preference, so now you know what to do if in hurry for some delicious Salim’s Kababs.

As for dessert, tonight it was my all time favorite Nirula’s Hot Chocolate Fudge. Yup, Life’s all good.

One question and one comment.
First the Question:
“How is Kakori Kabab different from Kathi Kabab ?”. I once stopped at Kareem’s Restaurant in Noida, UP (based on a recommendation from Abid Maamu, not really my Maamu but I say that with a lot of respect). Next to Kareem’s was a place for Kathi Kabab. Your photos of Salim’s Kakori Kabab looks like the Kathi Kabab I saw at that place in Noida (near Delhi), hence the question, “Is there a difference or it is just a matter of Tomayto and Tomahto”.
Next the Comment
Chow Mein is never made with Soy Sauce or Schezwan Sauce (a white sauce is used). Chow Mein also does not have noodles. It basic ingredients are Celery, Cabbage and Onions. It is made with a minimum of oil and spices (just a garnish of black pepper). Generally the choice is Chicken or Shrimp (really have I seen in China a Lamb Chow Mein or a Beef Chow Mein). It is one of the most healthy Chinese dish.

Typo alert in previous post
Generally the choice is Chicken or Shrimp (rarely have I seen in China/Taiwan/HK a Lamb Chow Mein or a Beef Chow Mein). Needless to say it is one of the most healthy Chinese dish.

So you have finally gotten to the Kababs!
@Shaan: Kakori Kabab is a more refined version of the Sheek Kabab; ie., the mince is more finer than the one in sheek kababs. The one Sakshi desribes seems to a kathi roll but with a kakori kabab inside it (instead of the usual stuffing). Kakori kababs have a long story behind it; one of my posts has the story at http://www.shantanughosh.com/2007/04/of-nawabs-and-kababs.html.
BTW, Sakshi, I have tagged you at my blog. Hope you play along!

Mouth watering!! Keep those pics of delicious foods coming.
@Shaan
The kathi rolls are usually made with kebabs which are chunks/squares of meat grilled on the skewer.
The kakori and seekh kababs are made out of minced meat which is wrapped around the skewer.

A friend there took me to some bakery in Gol Market (near where he lives).. Amazing pastries.. Well, might not be as good as the stuff at the swanky places, but good for the price..
I have been to Delhi only for a day till date, so I could not try anything else.

Me keeps thinking itna khaayegi, to moti ho jayegi
I live in GK-1,quite close to Kailash Colony(if anyone might have heard of it).Kailash Colony has four restaurants from where you can choose Kakori Kebab(or Mutton Seekh Roll as they are known as here).I will have to try the Kebab’s in Khan Market for the taste. The best part(here) is that you don’t have to wait or anything, dinner is always a phone call away. And they are as cheap as Rs.30-40(depending where they are bought from),so Rs.80 does seem a bit overpriced.
