Delhi Hog (Lunch) Part 1: East Patel Nagar Specialty

Focus of Attention – Matar Kachori (Rs. 15 per plate) & Matar Kulcha (Rs. 12 per plate)

Where – Roshan Lal

Location – East Patel Nagar

After a heavy breakfast comprising of home-made delicious waffles with maple syrup, it was time for me to head out in the scorching Delhi heat only to satisfy the needs of my inner-hungry self.

Suggested by my bhau (dad’s sister), along with my cousin I made a trip to Roshan Lal’s which happened to be just stones throw away from where I am residing.

Roshan Lals

Nothing fancy, actually NOTHING at all; just 2 walls, 2 shutters and 1 massive wooden platform is what Roshan Lal is all about. A pointer for those finicky about cleanliness and/or prone to stomach upsets – this place is definitely not recommended for you’ll. Within 5 minutes our parcel was ready (it’s more off a take-away joint), just got a bit stalled because of my photograph session.

Nearly freaked the owner out, he had doubts about my connection with the Sales Tax Department.

Matar Kachori

Matar Kulcha

Verdict –

Matar Kachori – Delicious

Matar Kulcha – Super Delicious

Roshan Lal is highly recommended for following reasons,

a)When loose change is all you can afford to spare.

b) If you love chat-pata items.

c) In need of fast food.

And in case you ever want to try extra hot mirchi chutney, I advise you to have a peek at this.

One thing I never do is get them packed n eat after a while. Consume them there n then .. piping hot.
And while the next may be samosa n jalebi, may I suggest that one of these days head for the UPSC chaat wala followed by a evening at the India Gate lawns with some ice cream.

One clarification. I guess it’s not “Bhau” but “Bhua” sometimes pronounced as “Boo+aa”.

And, Melody – Just try this ‘fast-food’ once. As Gulshan used to say in “DilJale” –

Zindagi ka maza to khatte mei hai.
