Last night Star Network went ahead with a re-run of Koffee With Karan’s this pathetic episode instead of the regular broadcast (on Star World and Star One). The reason was simple, on Star Plus we had the telecast of IIFA 2007 Awards and obviously no (smart) channel would like to cut down its TRP by competing against its sister channel.
Talking about the IIFA 2007 Awards, I thought the whole affair was pretty jazzy compared to many other Bollywood award ceremonies we have. I mean seriously who really cares about the awards itself (besides the actors, directors & producers), from an audience point of view I am more interested is watching who’s wearing what, who’s doing who, who performs what, who’s sulking and other masaladar features of the Hindi film industry. The credibility factor in such award ceremonies is totally non-existent, basically the hosts have the difficult task of pleasing everyone especially big stars and so we have more award categories and segments just to fit them all.
So instead of judging award ceremonies on the bases of awards handed out, I judge them on their entertainment factor. And I have to say IIFA 2007 Awards totally rocked.
Right from the basics like background sets, ambience and lighting to important aspects such as star presence, choreography, performances, show comparers and everything else included was top-notch. Guess it’s time rival award shows such as Filmfare, Starduct and Zee took some serious steps in quality improvement or else they are out of the rat race.
Though I found the entire ceremony very watchable, there were however some moments which I thought were truly fantastic, be it in the good sense or negative. And here are a few of them.
Akshay Kumar da Punjabi Ishtyle: Now did he look hot or whot!! Perfectly toned body, spiky hairstyle, tanned body color and above all Martial Art cum Bhangara dance moves. His jig with RDB was by far one of the best performances of the night and this I say not because I am Punju myself.
The AbhiAsh Jodi: Abhishek’s performance was so-so but somebody please get that beard off his face. The man’s look is getting way too annoying now. On the other hand, Mrs. Bachchan was voted the most glamorous woman of 2007 but for crying out loud the crap she was wearing at the ceremony was nowhere close to being glamorous. Agreed you are married but that doesn’t mean you have to dig out your wardrobe for some out-of-date white lahanga. The two together seemed enthusiastic practically about everything, which is quite understandable since they are still in the “honeymoon†period. Let’s see how long this continues….
My “Papa†the Best: Veteran actor Dharmendra was given some sort-of a lifetime achievement award and quite understandably the Deol clan got a bit emotional. Sunny bhaiya behaved like a perfect son and Bobby was simply too chweet when he said “He is the best†with those teary eyes. A perfect Kodak moment.
Naach Na Jane Aangan Teda: This obviously refers to Mr. Emran Hashmi. I can imagine poor Shaimak Davar’s plight trying to make this pakora fry, I mean dance. But one thing is for sure, there is this some strange connection between Emran and chartbuster songs.
Shilpa Shetty and Continued Stardom: So madam was yet again honored and yet again for her Big Brother “I am an Indian†act. Yawn…but giving credit where duly deserved, she looked awesome and her performance was very impressive especially the ending “kamar jhatkasâ€. BTW did anyone notice the look on Aishwarya’s face, don’t think isko usne crazy kiya re.
Hrithik Roshan: Hrithik what’s with the accent? (Only Salman can make it work).
Saif Ali Khan: Saif never ever try to do a one-up on Hrithik’s dancing capabilities and please lose some weight.
And finally….
Sexy Sallu: Ab mein bolongi toh bologe ki bolti hai but the Salman Khan and his dance moves were super-cool. A perfect finale for a show of this caliber. And yes, Govinda was good too. Can’t wait to watch them together in film Partner.
This is it. Me out now.

Gr8 post as usual… Nice criticism too…
Yeah, u r rite that the rival Award Functions shud start thinking sumthing concrete else IIFa wil take away all the fame which they have created for themselves in the years… Even though this Filmfare tried doing sumthing different which was good too…
Performances in IIFA were the best amongst all the award functions…

Yes, when it comes to dancing, Salman and Govinda have their own moves. It’s always good to watch Salman’s idiosyncratic dance moves and Govinda’s comedy… Partner should be an entertainer

Missed the telecast.
Was watching “Cheaper by Dozen 2″ on *Movies, followed by The One on Max, and then “Bad Boyz” on Zee Studio. Didn’t recall that it’s iifa day…

I thought the Bachchans’ performance was simply the worst part of the show.
BTW, I was surprised by a few nominations. Vijay Acharya nominated for the Best screenplay for Dhoom2. Screenplay? Which screenplay?
Omkara was nominated for the best story. And would IIFA award it to Bill Shakespeare posthumously had it won?

How do you figure it out?

I saw the iifa awards function and found emraan hashmi’s performance to be simply mind blowing, as he has such a fantastic impact on the audience, and response to all his chartbusters -
as far as his dancing skills, he has a lot of rhythm and has the confidence befitting to senior actors, considering that he has been only four years in the film industry – he certainly has drawn crowds by his mere presence and charisma – his fan following has increased a hundred fold in a short span of time.
most important, he is well loved by his producers, directors, and co-stars, as he has no starry airs just a very down to earth and humble person.

Abhi-Aish were so annoying. here r the performances worst to best.- Abhi, raima sen, ruslaan and Heena, Akshay, Aftab, Shilpa, Bipasha, Emran and the best- Salman and Govinda. They looked damn hot up there. I loved partner and its songs. Emran gave his best performance. Aftab and Bips were good too. The rest were ok. Did u see Bips and old flame Dino were together most of the show. John r u listening!! The IIFA rocked!!!
