Review Ek Chalis Ki Last Local : Worth A Watch But Not For Your Mum
Debutant director Sanjay Khanduri’s Ek Chalis Ki Last Local is what one may call a comical thriller, confusing in some parts and overly stuffed with crude jokes with a little bit drama thrown in here and there.
Ek Chalis Ki Last Localis a story of a middle class guy Nilesh, a Call Center employee. After a late night beer session with his office buddies, he reaches Vikhroli station but misses his 1:40 AM last local train for home and now has 150 minutes to kill before the next train arrives. What happens next in Nilesh’s life and how these 150 minutes end up changing his outlook and reality, is basically the film’s storyline.
Without any doubt, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local is a very gutsy attempt not only on the part of the director/producer but its entire ensemble. Their indulgence in raw humor (black comedy) may not go down well with certain movie watchers, but believe me it’s so much better and entertaining than gutter-crap like Kya Cool Hain Hum and Masti. Some of the characters and sequences are pretty much imaginable (atleast not in our kind of cinema) but I guess that’s what makes this film stand apart and kudos to Sanjay for this bold effort.
Abhay Deol has done an impressive job as Nilesh - his innocence, frail body structure, sex-starved nature, all talk no action mentality and everything else makes Nilesh an enjoyable character to watch. Neha Dhupia has for once has given a decent performance. Ashok Samarth as the policeman is terrific and so are his Mahabharata dialogues. Snehal Dabhi as Habiba bai is fantastic. Deepak Shirke is mind-blowing in the role of a Homosexual gang lord; here too the credit should be given to Sanjay for coming up with a character such as this.
Overall the film is solely for the multiplex masses and should do well inspite of not-so-good published reviews. In my opinion it is definitely worth a watch; however dare not even think of taking your mum along.

We all have a right to express our views. In many instances; it will be against ours and in some; with us. To hear them out is 'decency' but to let them get to you is 'weakness'.

Am happy to read positive reviews of the movie - atleast creativity is commended.
I did my bit earlier here and here
Talk of Cheeni Kam - am sceptical coz its just “Nishabd” in a more acceptable version I feel with “side story” kicked in. Am actually unhappy watching same ole stores [Hollywood ones I mean] in Bollywood format. I go to watch a movie to see something new and that refreshes me and its actually very boring when you reach a theatre and you kinda get the “same ole wine in a new bottle” - duhh ! Thats what happened when i went to see “Metro”

Jayan - I agree the last 20 mins or so seemed stretchy sorts. Otherwise the movie was good fun.
Prasoon - Excatly, the director’s vision is what counts here. As for Cheeni Kum, I would not place it in the same category as Nishabd. Anyway, this Friday will clear the picture.
Rishi - Well I use Vizu polls and have done loads of such posts previously. Will be coming up with one very soon.

i agree with u sakshi. i absolutely loved the story line. different than the normal bollywood stuff. sweet to watch. it definitely was better than kya kool hai hum and masti. had srk or a big actor done dis movie, da reviews by media wud hav been better. da characters r good..abhay deol has talent…nice actor…neha has also done a good job…basically da director chose “characters” and not “stars” as is da case in most of da movies dese days…chose abhishek bachchan even though he doesnt fit da role..m gonna watch it again
