Blacks Of America And The Dalits Of India

*MA is a teacher by profession, politically inclined with a little bit of philosophy thrown in. Here are his views, so read and respond.

Although it is too early to predict the outcome of the Presidential poll of United States of America but one cannot ignore the first time historical change that may probably occur in the U.S Presidential History!

Ten declared and potential candidates took a first chance to road-test 2008 messages with dueling speeches to pumped up activities at a two day Democratic National Committee winter meeting, which ended in February, this year.

The Presidential election field of 2008 could provide America with its first female President in the self of Senator Hillary Clinton or the first Black President in the form of Senator Barack Obama. Never before since America came into existence; It had a Black or a female head.

If Barack Obama is destined to be the president of America, not only the Black all over the world would rejoice but it would go to prove that in today’s modern America, Blacks are treated with respect on par with the Whites.

Let us not forget the historical fact that the earlier ancestors of the present day Black-people were brought as slaves from Africa to work in cultivation and were subject to inhuman ordeals and brutal torture. These people were liberated from slavery by the legendary President of America; Abraham Lincoln who believed in human equality. But it took ages for them to be accepted by Whites as their fellow American brethren.

Today the Blacks in America are a force to reckon with. They not only occupy prominent posts in Army but it is they who enable U.S.A to get maximum gold-medals in the athletic events in Olympics. They reign supreme even in the field of music. Then you have the Eddies and Denzels who have carved a niche for themselves in Hollywood films. And last but certainly not the least, the most popular, the most well attired first Black woman foreign secretary, Ms. Condoleezza Rice.

One must make a special note of the fact that the Blacks of America have made all these progress by their own strong will and effort to rise up and be on par with their White counterparts. Unlike in India, where the OBC’s, Scheduled Casts and Scheduled Tribes are given preference and privileges in educational and Government job sectors.

It is interesting to compare the so called Dalits of India who suffered similar tortures and human apathy from their higher casts. But with sad regret I have to admit that these Dalits with all the civil liberties and reservations accorded to them since last fifty years of Independence have been dwarfed by Blacks who inspite of no incentive have succeeded in becoming an integral part of main-stream of America and who command respect from their White-counterparts.

The article has a good point. Forget India, even in UK a minority cannot rise to the level with as much ease and freedom as a minority in USA. Clearly it is not all roses in US but still it is better than any other place in the world.

But I don’t understand Maverick’s point about Israel ? Why this fascination about Israel ? Go there and see how miserable life is there. I think as bad as the situation is for Dalits in India, they sleep more peacefully than the Israelis.

You are comparing Apples with Oranges. before they are “Dalits” they are Indians and trust me don’t even go near comparing achievements of Indians with Americans, specially in the field of Arts, Entertainment and Science.

As far as Blacks go in America, plz give me a break! If you can , talk to Denzels and eddies and they can easily tell you all about their hard times. It is an uphill battle for most of them and there is most definitely “Stereotyping” and not in a good way!

And for the comment about how many Dalit friends DO I have or whoever has, I do not know about you but I definitely don’t go asking people about their casts and religion. GROW UP!

It just shows your ignorance about both blacks and dalits. One of the dumbest posts I have ever come across. Sorry for being rude.

First of all US provides Israel with financial aid, not only that US even supplies Israel with military aid ( which include their F16 to HUMVEES) . All past loans have been forgiven and therefore Israel has never defaulted. How the do you compare Israel and dalits? and you call yourself a professor you are comparing apples and tomatos here man.
Having a black candidate means nothing until he is elected president. Jesse Jackson, Al sharpton were all black but they never got elected. Also positions such has the one Condoleeza Rice or Colin Powell had are not elective positions but rather appointed postions, it means the president such Geoge Bush appoints them. This is similar to the postion held by President RK Naryan and President Kalam. There is only one black senator in the senate even though blacks make up 15% of US population, how come blacks are not equally represented in senate.

And “no incentiver” have you heard of affirmative action in the US. That is similar thing to what you call reservations in India.

Seriously what kind of professor are you? It seems you and Sakshi always twist facts to support your arguments? It seems like you are really pissed with a reservation system set up for dalits? so you want to get rid of it so you make stupid arguments and comparisons.

It looks like Professorji and Sakshi like sucking blood of out poor Dalits. Dalits will never progress until there are ruthless bloodsucking upper caste people like you guys who always try to stay in the way of progress.

On the issue of Israel , please elaborate what you meant.

People (even holocaust survivors) for all reasons are fleeing from Israel. Some holocaust survivors are going back to, of all places, Germany. Can you believe that today Holocaust survivors prefer to go back to Germany than live in Israel.

Let see this from a different perspective, even with access to the deepest pockets in the world (i.e. USA) and the best military technology, which they used in violation of Geneva Conventions, Israel got its ass kicked by a rag tag group of Hezbollah fighters under the leadership of Nasrullah. The recent loss marks the loss of deterrent advantage that Israel had long enjoyed.

John Mearsheimer and Steven Walt, two tenured professors from U Chicago and Harvard suggest that just like the old Rome one day realized that the State of Judea were more an annoyance rather than an advantage, USA will one day soon like the Romans before them crush & destroy Israel for the same reasons. They state that Israel, which was much need during the cold war, has outlived its utility.

Hence I am wondering what part of the above narrative do you think represents a symbol of success and worth being proud of ? I wonder if you know that Israel (as per UN resolutions) has been stealing Palestinian Land, Water and Dignity ? I wonder if you know that Jimmy Carter (a former president of USA) recently declared that Israel is practicing apartheid ?

Finally I wonder if you know that most polls in Europe (as well as the world) thinks as Israel is the number threat to world peace ?

Hence please elaborate.

Sorry the last few lines got garbled up. Here it goes again…

Finally I wonder if you know that most polls in Europe (as well as the world) show that people look at Israel as the number one threat to world peace ? I am talking about polls in Germany, France, UK and Spain etc

Hence please elaborate. Your fascination with Israel is fascinating (to say the least).

Mav:

Your accusation is a lie. In 2003 Germany become the first choice for jews (see below artice). Then in the last two years, even those holocaust survivors have started leaving for Germany. Seems your ignornace has become my liability.

Good Morning from the Zundelsite:

An article that’s packed with food for thought:

Immigrant Policy Eyed as German Community Swells
By NATHANIEL POPPER
FORWARD CORRESPONDENT

BERLIN – Barely two generations after the Holocaust, Germany may be
edging Israel aside as the world’s most sought-after refuge for Jews
fleeing persecution.

That, at least, is the impression created by figures released this
month showing that Germany had outpaced Israel last year for the
first time ever as the main destination of Jewish emigrants from the
former Soviet Union. Germany took in 19,262 Jewish immigrants from
the former Soviet republics in 2002, while Israel took in 18,878………

All I have are only few dalit friends because I never select my friends I just try to be friendly to every one but many times I feel they are not worth of my friendship, my ideas or belifes keep clashing or are totally aganist their’s — I even have few muslim friends but never I face this situvation, I found many times that my dalits friends keep objecting me when I appreciate real winners in life like the software guys, amitab bachan, Gandhiji, the communist guys, Rahul dravid, the big industrilists, the bjp party, the hindu gods, the technocrates, even any one who looks beautiful, I tried to understand why they behave that way and I came to this conclusion ” lack of good school. education”. I strongly belive and its a fact that reservation wont help any one as it can put dalits or any one on the higher education benches but when it comes to intelligence the non reservations guys will be way ahead of the rest. Reservations only encourage divisions among the class room as this happened when I was in my graduation the majority were–we the reservation guys who formed a into a group and conspired aganist the others ultimately we all lost valuable time and education. I request you all guys not to encourage reservations all that we need is not reservations but good secondary education which will help us to choose our right degree in a rightfull manner and make us into good citizens. well I am a MBA Backward class guy I fought a bitter battle to come first in my class but stood overall 10th the above all guys are non reservations guys whom I adore very much and desire to become like them some day…!
