Its Shilpa’s problem whether to complain or not. Being a gal myself i would support her in either of the decisions. She has chosen not to complain because she didnt find it offensive and so we should be ok with it.

Yes i know that too. Light i think you are talking about the protests by Shiv Sainiks after the release of the movie ‘Fire’. Only way out is dont listen to any fanatic/radical groups irrespective of their religions.

When you give an example of the movie Bombay saying some people protested, do you know there were similar protests against the movie Fire[Shabana Azmi, Nandita das] The argument was that why none of the ‘characters’ was a muslim. To be honest it never struck me until this was pointed out by those fanatics because if you watch movies you must be knowing that most, infact almost all movies[except for a very few] do not have a muslim character as a lead.

If you know a few days before the incident of that ”innocent minor girl who was kidnapped by a muslim boy” [as per you],there was also a case where there was a minor muslim girl and a hindu guy .General public supported the lovers even then. Both the situations are same.But in that case will you say that the guy “kidnapped” the girl just like you did in the case where the guy was a muslim?I am sure you will not.I have problem with none of the cases, its their personal matter but i guess for you its ok only when the guy is a hindu, right?Thats definitely not fair

Here i agree with Sakshi on one thing which also came to my mind almost immediately when i saw this Shilpa-Richard news and that was about Rakhi. Rakhi complained and nothing happened, in this case Shilpa is even not complaining because she understands the situation then why are some people so keen to get her justice?Its again a personal matter and i would have been completely with Shilpa if she would have then decided to complain

I am very sad and shocked to see protests over kissing issue in present India. There is nothing wrong with kissing on cheek or lip. Stop protest and grow up. Be educated and be wise. Are we in the year 1800? come on! We are in the modern century. Please do not blame Shilpa and Gere over kiss because it is not a big deal. Don’t forget that Shilpa and Gere came to India to help people understand how AIDS is dangerous and tell everyone to use condom. Also, Gere came to help India grow economically because he loves India and he is a frequent traveller. Don’t forget that. They are not bad people. I am surprised to hear that kissing issue was spreaded all over news and media. Very Sad! Kissing on cheek is nothing. I hope everyone should stop non-sense protests. It is not worthy! I am glad to know fact that most people in the world said that it shouldn’t be a big deal.

So please dont fight. It is not worthy! DO NOT DROP OUT OF SCHOOL. JUST STAY IN SCHOOL, BE EDUCATED, and SAY ‘NO’ TO DRUGS AND TERRORISM. STAY UNITED. I mean YOU! GOD BLESS YOU!

For a society who has been deeply damaged by colonialism can one think of a more offensive image of a white guy grabbing a daughter of India and forcing himself upon her? It is so symbolic. It is right in line with the image of the white colonist forcing himself upon a country and just taking whatever he wants.

Richard Gere should pay the ultimate price for this.

What bothers me however is those who would blame Shilpa Shetty for this.

Too often women victims of rape in India are blamed for what happened like they wanted the rape to happen or it was their fault the rape happened even when the truth might be that the rapists brutalized them and they couldn’t stop the rape from happening.

While of course Richard Gere didn’t actually rape Shilpa Shetty, I still see this whole “Blame the Woman Victim” dynamic in place. From what I saw from the video Shilpa Shetty did nothing to cause Richard Gere to act the way he did, and was in fact as shocked as everyone else was that he would act in such a disgraceful manner.

We need to defend this daughter of India, not blame her for this white man’s assault upon her.
