While we Indians sit and crib over our stupid rituals, age-old customs and not to forget those self-appointed moral police bandwagon – namely religion and political fanatics, we should be thanking are bright star for not being born in Pakistan.
No offence to my neighboring country but this is purely height of bullshit.
Islamic clerics at a radical mosque in Pakistan’s capital have demanded the tourism lady minister Nilofar Bakhtiar be fired for hugging a gora aadmi, saying she committed a “great sinâ€.
On Sunday, the chief cleric of the Lal Masjid Mosque issued a fatwa against her after she was pictured hugging a man following a paragliding flight.
The cleric described Ms Bakhtiar’s behaviour as obscene.
The mosque and two Islamic schools attached to it have been accused of promoting intolerance.
Lal Masjid‘s chief cleric, Maulana Abdul Aziz, threatened last week to stage suicide attacks if authorities tried to raid the mosque. The whole ruckus began when photos showing Bakhtiar hugging her male instructor during a charity parachute jump in France last month to raise money for victims of the devastating October 2005 earthquake in Pakistan.
As per the fatwa, “hugging†was an illegitimate and forbidden act and Muslim women are expected to stay at home and never venture out uncovered. The fatwa demanded that Bakhtiar be fired, given another unspecified punishment and that her family force her to ask for forgiveness so that she does not repeat this un-Islamic act.
I guess it won’t be long before these fuckers start yelling out fatwas on Muslim women for breathing also.

Hi there, just want to show my support and solidarity. I hate it when women get assaulted like this, emotionally or physically. I am lucky enough to have grown up in Europe myself, but there are just far too many places in the world, where women have a really hard time. I wish we could free ourselves from this nonsense once and for all, soon, now!

well Shilpa is no muslim, nor is India a country with an official religion but it still happened here and it wasnt the muslims, it was we who protested.Pakistan should first ban all the music videos and movies that they make. It has similar scenes and even more. Is it not hypocrisy that if it is done for entertainment its ok and if done in real its bad?
I think it is extremely naive and stupid to malign religions like that. And about pakistan’s logic, the lesser said the better

Tha lady Ms. Bakhtiar had sent her resignation[she had the self-respect and ego to do that even for a 'group' who went against her, our politicians never do that even when the whole state/country goes against them] and Musharraf did not accept it. Kuch to achha kiya Musharraf ne…
