Marilyn Monroe, Guru Dutt, Meena Kumari….Love Leads to Death

Bobby Kennedy’s affair with the screen idol Marilyn Monroe has been documented, but a secret FBI file suggests the late US attorney-general was aware of – and perhaps even a participant in – a plan "to induce" her suicide.

The detailed three-page report implicates the Hollywood actor Peter Lawford, Monroe’s psychiatrist, staff and her publicist in the plot.

The allegations suggest the 36-year-old actress, who had a history of staging attention-seeking suicide attempts, was deliberately given the means to fake another suicide on August 4, 1962. But this time, it is suggested, she was allowed to die as she sought help.

Now we can surely scarp Marilyn Monroe’s death from the Book of Urban Legends.

It’s so strange isn’t it, Love which is apparently responsible for making one’s life worthwhile can actually end up taking people to their grave way before the expiry date.

Closer to home I can think of couple of actors who suffered an untimely death though nothing dodgy surrounds the circumstances that lead to their burial – but love surely seems to be one of the reasons.

Divya Bharti passed away at a very young age of 19. She fell from her 5-storey apartment causing multiple fractures to her skull and was pronounced dead on arrival at the local hospital. I still very clearly remember the next morning; it was my dad who gave me the news while dropping me to school. Divya was my cousin and though there are many issues I could discuss but I think it’s for the best to not to do so. Hope her soul rests in peace.

Legendary and super-talented Meena Kumari passed away at the age of 40 something. She died of cirrhosis of liver resulting from her alcoholic tendencies. A complete romantic by nature, her life started sliding downhill after her un-successful marriage with writer/director Kamal Amrohi.

And lastly…

One of the best directors to ever hit the Indian screen, Guru Dutt met an untimely death due to an overdose of sleeping pills while being drunk. He was just 40 years old. Rumor has it – Guru Dutt went into depression because a certain actress used him as a stepping stone to enter Hindi Film Industry and then completely rejected him over another newcomer. And this lead to his addiction to alcohol and dependence on sleeping pills.

Still remember, when Divya Bharati died, I was in school. Our whole class was crazy about her especially after the stupendous success of her telugu movie “Bobbili Raja” where she was paired up with Venkatesh. We watched the movie almost 4-5 times only because of her.
Our whole class was in a state of shock at the news of her death.

A rare combination of beauty and talent.Had she been alive she would have been more popular than Aishwarya Rai.

I liked her alot and nobody can take her place, i wish she was still there she would had put behind all the stupid heroiens of today like ashwariya rai, urmila etc…
She had to go along way but all of a sudden she vanished….

N eways may her soul rest in peace…but i miss her……

Years have gone by however it is still very hard to believe that my favourite actress is not amongst us, DIVIYA BHARTI. She was indeed very talented and her smile was just amazing.Along with her outer beauti came her inner lovingness. She was great. We miss her and hope she rests in peace forever.
