Roots of First Love

Totally bored with life, I was watching a totally boring Bollywood flick on Tele.

And then I heard some mother of all filmy dialogues.

The film in question was Mazdoor (1983) and scene involved Raj Babbar and Rati Agnihotri.

A little gist to get you familiar with the sentiments involved:

Raj Babbar is a married man (wife is Padmini Kolhapure) and Rati Agnihotri is his ex-flame. Rati is still very much hung-over him and in order to stay close to him she decides to marry his brother in-law Raj Kiran.

Rati hears about Padmini being pregnant. Obviously the father of the un-born child is Raj (come on you people don’t think naughty), so completely pissed to the core she barges into Raj’s bedroom in her white-lacy nightgown while he is busy checking out his hairy chest in the mirror. Well okay not exactly that but he was shirt-less.

They have a quarrel.

Raj gripping the dressing table chair: “Maine tumse kitni baar kaha hai ki mujhe bhul jao bhul jao bhul jao.”

Rati running from one corner to another: “Mein tumhe kaise bhul jao.”

Rati continuing but this time standing next to the window: “Pehala pyaar pataal se nikla hua woh jadh (root) hai joh laakh chahane par bhi nahi sukhta”.

Wow! Totally dhasu na.

Now I realize how meaningless life would be without Bollywood. So from now chuck those agony aunts and just watch Hindi movies.
