Review Eklavya : A Commendable Effort Though Not For Everyone
I happened to catch the just released Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan flick, Eklavya: The Royal Guard. Before going in I heard a couple of folks cribbing and cursing Vidhu Vinod Chopra for making a boring dud just after giving us a super-blockbuster hit Munnabhai Part 2. So won’t say I didn’t have any apprehensions over boring myself to death and that too on a Friday night. But after watching the film I have decided not to go by reviews or word-of-mouth feedbacks, best is to rely on ones own gut feeling.
And yes, incase you are still wondering I did like the film though it would be best to warn you that some of the other party members had to be woken up on regular intervals.
In order to save you much trouble, here are some of the key points which you may consider before booking your theater tickets.
Eklavya is more likely to be appreciated by Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan fans. So, if you fall in either of the two categories then you don’t need to read further - “ Just go yaar.
If you love watching stage plays then you will approve director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s effort.
Slowed paced movies don’t bother you.
Valid for men only -If you are desperately looking for some amazing styling tips then Saif is THE MAN.
Valid for women only - Saif is an absolute hottie. I still can’t get over his curly eyelashes.
This film has ONLY one song. And that too a good one.
Like me, if you too value the aesthetic strokes displayed in a film then Eklavya is a must watch. It’s wonderful to see so much detailing and hard work put in set designing, costumes, sound, etc.
It takes a gutsy man to make a film only for himself and not worry about its commercial result.
One of the very few films where all involved have done their job to the perfection T.
Eklavya is barely 120 minutes long.
Another interesting bit about watching Eklavya is that we got a glimpse of two of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s forthcoming films Munnabhai chale America and another film with Amitabh Bachchan which looks a lot like Lord of the Rings. Believe me from the looks of it they both appear to be very promising.

We all have a right to express our views. In many instances; it will be against ours and in some; with us. To hear them out is 'decency' but to let them get to you is 'weakness'.

Interesting. I had decided not to watch it on receiving quite a few negative reviews but I guess it makes sense to decide on my own!
Maybe I will take a look at it..

Awesome Review!! I love Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s movies. I think they are intelligent and not for everyone, as you rightly said. This looks great. I am not sure when it will come to my part of the world. This is certainly on my to-watch-list and not because of Saif although I am his fan after Omkara anyways

People were excited when they saw the promos of Salaam-e-ishq but it was a disappointment and then came Eklavaya. once more people got excited and this time i was not sure whether to really bet heavy on this movie. But if there was something which made me say “I am going to watch this movie for sure”, is rightly said by you in these words:

Sakshi:I happened to watch this film on Friday, it’s first day of release. Although I didn’t really think much of the film, I thought the location where the movie was shot@ in Rajasthan was absolutely gorgeous! It reminded me that Rajasthan is truly beautiful! And the clothes were very apt, bearing the location and the genre of the film.
However, I wasn’t blown away by Amitabh Bachchan’s acting skills though since I had great expectations from him keeping in mind he was gifted a Rolly Royce for this role after all.
Absolutely agree with you about Saif Ali Khan, he looked truly like a Prince!Absolutely to die for!:)

Eklayva has some great performances and was shot very beautifully. But, there are too many holes in the story which keep you from enjoying the experience. Overall, I was disappointed. I didn’t like the way the story was narrated. The style gave away what was to come next and that was anti-climatic. The last 15-20 minutes were just unbearable and unacceptable from this banner.
