Radio Fever Back On

I stopped listening to local Radio stations a while back. In more appropriate words I was forced not to listen. The reason was just one - since most of them played only desi music, it wasn’t gelling with my likings. However there was just one radio channel GO 92.5 FM (now known as Radio One), that played popular English number and my most favorite was their after-hour show where they played angreezi songs from the 80s and 90s.

But as they say “all good things must come to an end”, the honcho-ponchos behind GO 92.5 FM decided to change everything which basically meant doing exactly what other radio channels were doing; no English music, boring discussions, less music more ads. It was sad day for us the loyal listeners but I guess everyone wants to be a part of the rat race.

So during my recent trip overseas I decided to gift myself the almighty, iPod. Since then the ride to-n-fro work, outings, late night drives have never been a problem. My Poddy baby has been plugged in well with my daily E class Mercedes aka. My 1997 model Santro.

However today while on my way to work I decided to check out the new radio station Fever 104 FM, which Vulturo had written about in very kind words.

And after giving the new-arrival, some good 45 minutes I would give them two thumps up.

The good bit is that they play English music besides your Hindi numbers which included both Bollywood and Non-Bollywood music. Other plus points were no jockey talking crap bit but more music, very few commercials so less irritation for your ears but the thing that impressed me the most was that even at 9.30 am these guys were playing cool peppy numbers, then ones that would actually want to move your butt. Mostly you have radio channels playing easy, light-going music in the wee-hours of the morning - which for some is nothing short of a dull beginning.

So yeah! I am happy with this change and might actually give my Poddy a break for the next few days. And I hope these guys won’t change their shades once the rating go higher and the sponsor’s money starts pouring in.

ps…it’s Friday people and I can’t wait to get my eyes on this week’s Bollywood release Salaam-E-Ishq starring my favourite Salman Bhai.

Hmm.. salaam-e-ishq… the trailers seem like run-of-the-mill Bollywood stuff.

Shadows - Well S-e-I’s trailers are very impressive and so is their website. As for the Youtube video, I have posted about it ages ago. It’s one of the best I have seen till date on YouTube. ;)

Same is the case with our desi MTV & [V]. They don’t play a single angreezi number all day long..thank God, VH1 offers some respite.

Sakshi am eagerly waiting for Salaam-e-Ishq…love the trailors, songs..(my fav being Dil Kya Kare sung by Adnan Sami).

My pet peeve too! I dont live in Bombay, so we don’t get even the few English songs you get with your larger selection of radio stations. Apparently listeners of English songs are a far smaller group than I would have thought (even in the large metros). And both MTV and Channel V began with a good mix of International and Bollywood based programs, but quickly moved to where the advertisers are. VH1 is newer and doesn’t attract advertising yet; let’s see if they remain the way we would like them to!
