Big Brother which is basically the “baap” of the on-going popular Indian reality show Bigg Boss has begun the New Year with its very own celebrity house-mates.
Now don’t go thinking that I have gone a bit retarded over the reality show drama, I have a valid reason for discussing this bit of news – Apparently, the Angreezi version has a desi tinge to it.
One of the 11 housemates of the Celebrity Big Brother in UK is our very own sexy and sassy heroine, Shilpa Shetty.
A blogger on Desicritics.org reports:
Ladies and gentlemen, one of the celebs in this years show is none other than our very own Shilpa Shetty! When she sashayed down the red carpet, clad in a pink and green saree, looking every inch a glam Bollywood star, I almost fell off the sofa! What the hell was she doing here?
In her intro bit, she wondered how she was going to carry on minus her entourage; my question is: girl, have you got any idea what you have let yourself in for? The only thing worse than a BB house is the “I’m a Celeb” jungle, where ‘grub’ takes on a new meaning. Every day, for the remaining three weeks, la Shetty would be watched, her actions judged and any gaffes splashed all over the media.
Some of you might recall, this happens to be Ms. Shetty’s second appearance on a reality show; first one was as a judge on Sony’s celebrity dance show, “Jhalak Dikhlaja”. Where rather than being a judge, she appeared to be more of a hand-puppet of her fellow judges Farah Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Agree the whole thing sounds a bit amusing but I would still say that it’s a very smart move by a now-fading actress to boost her career. Firstly, she would be paid in pounds (considering the exchange rate to be around Rs. 80, it will be as good as doing a Hindi film). Secondly, this could open up new avenues for her such as offers for “cross-over” films, product endorsements, etc.
And last but not the least, free publicity over her short stint by the media-goons back home. Since the show is expected to last for only 3 weeks, I would say it’s a not a bad deal at all.

3 weeks only sounds like a pretty neat deal. I am sure she is going to reap some good stuff from in there – But I hope she doesn’t end up having sex on national television with one of the inmates.

The UK’s Celebrity Big Brother is a reality show for seriously unknown celebrities…its for the nobodies of showbusiness. If there was a category below z list, these people would be classified there. I really sympathise with Shilpa, I have no idea how she’s going to put up with company like that for three weeks, I know I’d go crazy. Its NOT glamourous, its NOT cool. and its not really an HONOUR either! Which is what someone should tell this “close friend” …

I tell you, my whole family and i were watching the big brother show… purely coz nothing good was on tv…. and then all of a sudden we sw shilpa shetty… and suddenly everyone’s jaw in the room dropped down and there was a moment of huge disbelief…and for once we all could mind read each others thoguhts… “WTF?????” Shilpa Shetty on big bro… she is going to be slaugheterd…. HOW WILL SHE WASH HER CLOTHES AND COOK??? She definitely has no idea what she has got herself into…. and more so… all the celebrities in their are NO-BODIES!!! all i got to say to her is good luck… coz she deffoo needs it…. still very bizzareeee ….

Nik – I can’t even begin to imagine the look on C’s face on seeing Shilpa Shetty. I know she is among all those losers but frankly it’s not that she was doing much here anyways. This stint of her’s will atleast keep her in news for next couple of weeks. And what if she wins!!!

not so bizzaarree if you look at the moolah she will be making here … i have read somewhere that she will be taking home a cool Rs 3.2 crore no matter she wins this or not.. now that is much more than she will make doing 10 films here in india
