Death to Saddam

Saddam Hussein is dead, thus ending a thirty year reign of brutality and murder. He was executed, along with his half-brother, Barzan Ibrahim, head of intelligence during his reign, and Awad Hamed, former head of the Revolutionary Court. The three were hanged about one minute before 9 PM EST, or 6 AM, Iraq time.

If anybody deserved to hang, it was Saddam Hussein.

Well good riddance to bad rubbish. Now can we move onto cleaning our own backyard and let’s start by mopping up this filth.

The execution of former Iraq President Saddam Hussein was the result of a hurried judgment and “injustice borne out of anger”, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said today. “The capital punishment awarded to him, which should have been reviewed and given up, has made Saddam Hussian a great hero,” he said in a statement. If somebody were to point out that hundreds were killed during Saddam’s reign, history’s answer was that King Asokha had turned a Buddhist only after he killed many people during the Kalinga War, Karunanidhi said. The US, now hated all over the world, could have followed the example set by Alexander the Great, when he did not harm King Porus after annexing his kingdom, Karunanidhi said

Strong words for a man who didn’t do much to you, or did he?

We are so quick to condemn Saddaam. He got what he deserved for his war crimes, but who gets punished for the war crimes against Iraqi and Afghani citizens?

You know, you gotta appreciate the mans sense of humor even when he was staring at death in the eyes, when he said “I’m dying a martyr”.

About Afzal, I’ve been bitching about it in my blog. But the way India showed dissent at Saddam’s hanging, I very much doubt this scum would be put to death.

The problem I have with this is the manner in which it was executed. Although the USA says that it has nothing to do with this, its role cannot be questioned. The Big Stick policy is written all over it. As a ruler of my country, I would be really apprehensive on ways to protect from the big brother coming in any time and taking over.

Even as someone affected by this person during the Gulf War, it almost feels like the end came too quickly without much suffering, yet it feels sad, a waste of life.
