Religion, Architecture, World Domination And iPod

While sitting on train from Brooklyn to Manhattan, I discovered the power of a gadget called “iPod”. Here I was riding along with the human race, all coming from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, nationalities, gender, color, shape and sizes – nothing uniting them together besides an iPod.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that today iPod is a sort of a techno-religion with thousands of PoddyMates (people owning iPods) all across the globe.

Initially, I was very much a part of the anti-iPod brigade which till date I can’t understand why considering the fact that I am so totally a techno-gadget geek. Anyways the vision seen and experienced by me in that Downtown New York journey compelled me to get on my laptop and order my own iPod. I bought an iPod Nano, was welcomed with open-arms by my PoddyMates and as they say, the “Rest is History”.

So it doesn’t come as a big surprise when we read news such as this -

The iPod has made its mark on popular culture, changing the face of the music industry and becoming one of the best-selling gadgets of all time. But Apple’s music player could be stretching its influence into unexpected territory: architecture.

A newly announced multimillion-dollar building project in Dubai will reportedly take inspiration for its design from the iPod.

Officials have said that the “iPad” will be based on the design of Apple’s MP3 player. The tower will be perched on top of a docking station, and will ape the iPod by sitting at an angle of six degrees. The 23-storey building, due to open in 2009, is expected to house more than 200 homes and offices.

The development is being designed by a Hong Kong-based consultancy, James Law Cybertecture, an award-winning architecture firm focused on futuristic projects and “intelligent” buildings. Previous projects have included an artificial intelligence laboratory and a “morphable” house in Denmark that is able to change its shape and layout.

All I can say is that Residents of Planet Earth this is just the beginning and Yes, World domination is our ultimate goal.

its amazing how an erstwhile heath robinson contraption can make a dent into human psyche so seamlessly that the humans are going to live in it.. forget zune and all those mp3 cell phones, ipod is certainly here to stay and replicating its success is not even possible for steve jobs..

Dubai is a crazy place indeed. This is an interesting find and good to read about the inspiration – Creativity unlimited, would you call it?
