The Drama of Sanjay Dutt’s Bail Extensions

When actor Sanjay Dutt was pronounced guilty by Judge PD Kode under India’s Arms Act many of us were shocked. As I had mentioned in my earlier post that with the success of his recent films, regular television interviews and numerous rounds of holy places - I actually believed that he would be let-off by the Indian courts.

But much to the actor and his family’s lucky fortune he was set-free from the most serious offence - the conspiracy charges.

Now what I can’t seem to understand is the circus charade going on with Sanjay Dutt’s bail application. Every time he is instructed to surrender, his lawyers present another bail application and court continues with the mockery by extending his application and assigning yet another date to him for surrendering.

From 28th November he was let-off till 19th December, on 19th his bail was extended till today and today his bail has been further extended till 18th January.

I mean what is this stupidity - if he has been convicted just give him his damn sentence, be it for 6 months or 5 years and pack him off to prison.

As per his bail application, Sanjay has stated the following reasons for an extension:

1. He needs to make arrangements for his daughter’s education in the US and wants to spend time with her during her visit to India this month

Why the heck should the Law & Order system of our country be concerned with this. Plus I am sure Sanjay’s two sisters and brother-in-laws are very much capable of doing the above. The bottom line here is quite straight, many of the convicted criminals have wife, kids, old parents, uncle and aunts but we don’t hear the court making an exception for them then why should Sanjay be treated any differently.

2. Apparently his father Sunil Dutt died without making a will and he needs time to manage the family’s properties before surrendering.

I highly doubt that a disciplined man like Mr. Sunil Dutt never made a will, anyways one might give benefit of doubt to Sanjay here.

3. He has incomplete film projects in hand and wanted to finish these assignments so that producers did not suffer losses.

So? Why should we care! The producers and the entire film fraternity for that matter were much aware of Dutt’s on-going case; they should have thought then about such outcomes and not banked their money on him.

Hopefully the next round in the court would end up with some concrete judgment and the celebrated star would be sent to prison to do time for the crime committed.

Maybe judge Kode is a woman and she doesn’t want to loose him from her court room that easily.:)

I agree with you 100%. I dunno why is Mr Dutt being given these priviledges. Why shud the court care about all the issue he has mentioned?

there is more than luck involved here. if you are close to the gandhi family, everything is possible. Everyone knows about Sanjay Dutt’s mother Nargis Dutt the daughter of Jaddanbai.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaddanbai
Jaddanbai was rumoured to be the illegitimate daughter of Motilal Nehru and famous courtesan Daleepabai, for the senior Nehru was said to have been enamoured by Daleepabai. Jaddanbai later even tied a rakhi to Jawaharlal Nehru.
Who needs luck!!
