Taxis for Women driven by Women
This surely does seem to be good news for Iranian women.
Iran will launch a women-only taxi company in Tehran aimed at women who feel uncomfortable riding in close proximity with members of the opposite sex.“The Ladies’ Safe Trips” taxi company, due to open for business in the next few weeks, will be the first such private sector firm in the capital. Similar taxi lines have been operating in some provincial cities for several years.
The company will only employ female drivers who will wear uniforms and must be married.
Due to Islamic rules, men and women travel in separate sections in public transportation systems like buses. But in the shared taxis that abound in most cities, women and men are often forced to squash together in cramped conditions, something that many Iranian women find stressful and awkward.
Agree the reasons are very orthodox-ish but I guess one needs to respect the rules of the land you reside in.
On another note, I think the idea of having private taxis for women driven by women would be excellent for some of bigger Indian metro-cities. Not that we are that back-ward in our attitude but more importantly it would be good for safety reasons.
For example, in a city like New Delhi where it’s not at all considered safe for women to travel alone in rickshaws or taxis especially late-evenings and nights - such private services could come very handy.
But then the issue of safety for lady taxi drivers could be a matter of concern.

We all have a right to express our views. In many instances; it will be against ours and in some; with us. To hear them out is 'decency' but to let them get to you is 'weakness'.

LOLzzz… haha.. Gets funnier and funnier.
Is this a valid justification? Why are we not calling it wrong? Is it because muslims are involved and of course, we have to be secular, warna dilip dsooza aa jayega. (gabbar aa gaya).
What if such a rule had been proposed by Shivsena in the name of Hinduism? Would our reactions have been the same? (NOTE - Hinduism says no such thing about women and men not travelling together, while Islam specifically says so. I am killing the tangent right here).

Shadows - I know, I was taken a bit back with the “married” criteria but they have their reasons.
See its not about being secular, atleast NOT in my case. The fact is some Middle-Eastern nations are very conservative in their thoughts especially concerning women. However the way I see it, this service is only going to benefit the Iranian women, so there is no reason of being overly hyper over it. Plus if the women there are not complaining….then who the heck are we.
As for Shiv Sena, yes you are correct I would eat their heads off (like Kali maa
), if they ever try anything like this.

Not that I want it, but why is this not allowed as a justification for us
Why cant we say - we are a very conservative society so kissing in movies isnt allowed?
May I ask why so?
Anyway, I dont care. Their dogmas and their fundamentalism. Let these do whatever they want to do, as long as they dont force it upon the rest of the world. Which is not so. They believe so strongly that non-muslims are less than animals and its ok to commit crimes against them, that you have no other way out but to fight back.
I am ok with whatever they want to do with their own lives, but they have no business telling the world to believe in what they believe in. Fair enough?

I meant, why this “unequal” judgement. What if the Congress comes up with such a rule tomorrow. Or one of the scores of muslim organizations in India? (Going by the current trends, I will not be very surprised. Already that a**hole Manmohan Singh has said - muslims have more rights to resources)

Shadows - You said, as long as they don’t impose it upon us it’s all fine. Plus as I said if the Iranian women are NOT complaining, then it’s actually none of our concern.
And I totally agree with you on Manmohan Singh’s comment, so un-called for. Tommorrow he would be gifting our country to our darling neighbours for Eid. He needs to loosen his turban, I say.

>> You said, as long as they don’t impose it upon us it’s all fine.
Its a matter of time, before this happens in India too. Like how they have gone around imposing their ideology on Europe, Canada and Australia. See how laws are being bent there and in India to favour and please them, to avoid violence. Soon, we will have reservations for them in colleges and even private industry. When in the first place, they claim all are equal. Such Irony.. and Hypocrisy.
See how laws are being bent in India, Thailand, Philippines, Europe, Canada etc to accomodate their ideology.
Manmohan isnt fit to be a prime-minister at all… he was just a yes-boss man of Narasimha Rao, and he did what he was told. Also, he wrongly got the credit for India’s reforms. If someone should get the credit, it is late NR, and not this Sonia’s lapdog.

Strange to see that the blogosphere is quite silent on this.

A minor issue at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) has potentially major implications for the future of Islam in the United States.
some Muslim taxi drivers serving the airport declared that they would not transport passengers visibly carrying alcohol, in transparent duty-free shopping bags, for example. This stance stemmed from their understanding of the Koran’s ban on alcohol. A driver named Fuad Omar explained: “This is our religion. We could be punished in the afterlife if we agree to [transport alcohol]. This is a Koran issue. This came from heaven.” Another driver, Muhamed Mursal, echoed his words: “It is forbidden in Islam to carry alcohol.
This can happen India too. MAN-MOHAN will agree no doubt.

Gope,
Pretty soon. Sachar report ought to have included that. Liquor shops and bars should be banned. How can they even see such heresy?
Sakshi,
, your hands will be chopped and your wife/GF/daughter sent to harem) and stock exchanges should be Islamic (wat ?? they want alqaeda, HM, JeM etc to be listed?)
This is the kind of “forcing their views on others” that I was talking about. Already, there were demands in India that banks should work in Islamic way (whatever that is — if you fail to repay your loan
They already have their own laws, their own separate courts (those sharia courts), their separate development funds(Maharashtra minority fund or something, sponsored by Govt of Mah, ie effectively our tax money), their own ghettos where outsiders cannot go.
I say, all right, have them. Do what you want, as long as it does not impinge on our freedom and way of life. But then we should not be blamed for their backwardness (you have your own system in place, how are we responsible for your “supposed” backwardness). We are not to be in suffering for their actions (wrt Sachar report).
There is one thing I wonder. 69 pc reservations for backwards, 15 pc for muslims, 5 pc for Christians (can they be left behind). 89 pc total. What does that leave for the rest of us? Strangest thing is this - What , when, where is anyone being stopped from admission or jobs if they have merit?

It seems, that the left leaning and socialist mindset of so many law and policy makers has led us to a precipice where not just Indian Constitutional but cultural and social achievements stand to be reversed.
.
The day we allow Sharia law to supplant Constitutional law in any segment of Indian society we instantly become unworthy of the liberty and freedoms.
India cannot remaian Democratic country observing shariat laws.
In U.K,
first Muslims asked space for the prayer halls.
Then they asked for space & buildings for Mosques,
Then they demanded Islamic Schools,
Then they asked for Islamic Cultural Centres,
Then they asked for ” Halal ” ( Islamic Cruel way of Slaughtering Animals )
meat in restaurants
Then they asked separate place for men and women,
Then they imposed Burkas , Veils and Headscarves for Women,
Then they demanded the ban on alcohol in some hotels and restaurants,
Then they asked removal of Jews , Hindus , Sikhs and Buddhists Judges
in Courts when the criminals are Muslims,
Then they asked removal of Pork and Pork related products from menu of
several food outlets and restaurants,
Then they demanded separate swimming pools for men and women,
Then they demanded Islamic Parliament in United Kingdom .
Then they demanded all the social securities and benefits for Muslims,
Then they demanded Sharia in several parts of Muslim areas in Country,
Then they demanded to stop Miss World Competition in Nigeria a Muslim Country.
This is beginning of the end of the Western Free way of life in West itself.
Islam and Muslims are increasing their numbers at alarming rate in West.,
and their demands grows with their numbers and West surrenders day by day .
Surrender , Compromise , Appeasement , Retreat has strengthened
Militant Islam in West .
THIS IS WAKE UP CALL FOR USA, INDIA, AUSTRALIA AND
OTHER DEMOCRATIC COUNTRIES.
WAKE-UP OR PERISH !!!
ACT NOW???
