I would be drifting away from my Bollywood fascination onto my cricket obsession for this week’s poll. I know that you know that our Indian cricket team is in the pits given their off-late performances, be it the Champions Trophy or the on-going series in South-Africa against the host nation.
Looking at their disgraceful display, it wasn’t all that surprising when the inclusion of the team’s ex-captain Saurav Ganguly in the Indian Test Squad was announced. Though to me it seems more of a political move rather than based on the player’s merit.
Picked for the South Africa Test series, Sourav Ganguly today said he would bank on his experience of playing on bouncy tracks to come good in the three-match rubber.
“I am happy to be back,” Ganguly told reporters who had gathered in huge numbers to get his reaction on being selected to the national squad after ten months.
“My job is to go and do well. I have lot of runs behind me and experience to play on the bouncy pitches in South Africa,” he said at the Eden Gardens where he will turn out for Bengal tomorrow in a Ranji Trophy game against Mumbai.
“I have done very well in Australia where there is lot of bounce. I have played with the same group of players earlier. I hope I can continue in the same way,” he added.
He, however, refused to comment if the Tests would be a stepping stone for him to make it to the one-day side in the run up to the World Cup.
And that’s what exactly he did – with a gutsy and much needed 83 runs with a brilliant partnership with Irfan Pathan. Ganguly dada’s batting helped India get out of a tight situation after the Top order batsmen once again failed to make a denting impact on the opposition.
However the very next innings Ganguly’s batting technique totally crumpled when he got out on a “duck” on the bowling of M. Hayward.
There is no doubt over Ganguly’s talent or love for the game but does he truly deserve a place in the team in the name of “experience“?
We already do have in-consistent players on-board Gunguly could prove to be just another one.
Anyways, I guess we shall be able to answers these questions only by the end of the South-African series – till then take part in this week’s poll.
Result :
With only 36 number of visitors participating in this poll, it’s clear that we Indians are no more that enthusiastic about cricket and the passion is somewhere lost.
36.1% believe that Sourav’s inclusion in the Indian Test squad was not necessary, where as 27.8% participants state that they have given up cricket and are vesting this sporting time in our country’s national sport – Kabaddi.
Only 25% of the participating folks are happy with having Sourav Ganguly back with the Men in Blue.

His inclusion in the “TEST” squad is really a surprise. If at all he had to brought back,it should hav been to the ODI squad rather than the longer version. He will be of much use for us there. His record speaks for it.But having said that “the selectors had to do it ,given the way the men out in Africa are shaping up”. Lets wait and see.

IMHO, Ganguly will not be of much use. But he seems to be better than Sehwag these days.

I will go with Shadows on this one, don’t think Sourav’s inclusion will make much of a difference.

does anyone who is in the team truly deserve a place in the national team ? No so Ganguly’s inclusion doesn’t make any difference.

Sourav scored the maximum number of runs in the Indian Team in the SA tour. Just proves the paucity of cricket knowledge the people who participated in the polls have. Why dont you watch kabaddi … I am sure not many of you have ever played cricket … or understand the nuances of the game … sorry If I offended … but stupidity needs to be pointed out … sometimes …
