The day that comes once every year in everyone’s life, is here for me today – Yes! It’s my birthday. And incase you are wondering, I have completed my 27th year.
You know its funny, how are own attitude towards our own birthday changes as we grow older. As kids and even in college days, I use to start my birthday celebrations a week in advance and at times I would actually land-up hinting to those who might forget my ‘B’ day, that its my ‘B’ on the 6th of December.
But now it’s different – the day seems as ordinary as the other 364 days. No seriously, it just feels so bland – maybe the people who matter the most aren’t around has its impact too.
Then again, this is just me. However the buzz and assortment of expressions from the ones calling in to give their best wishes has made the day atleast a little bit interesting.
My mum was the first to wish me (again) in the morning, a tight hug but I could feel the bouts of tension in her heart, “Sheeks! My youngest is 27 and still not married. Bhagwan koi acha ladka milwa do”. (No, she didn’t say this on my face). The next in line was my brother, “Its 9.30 and you are still at home?again late for work. Oh! Ya Happy Birthday”.
The funniest was my 5 year-old nephew who forgot to wish but still brought a big smile on my face, “Bhau, where is the cake?”. Then came in my older (married) sister’s phone call, “Happy Birthday..Happy Birthday. 27 year old buddhi with no boyfriend and or patti. Wah! Aren’t you lucky.”
Moving on to the friends, well one line is standard with most of them, “Where is the party yaar?”. With only one exception – last night at a get-together with couple of friends. At stroke of mid-night when everyone else was busy singing birthday song, a really close girlfriend comes up to me and putforths her anguish – “Sakshi I am really worried for you. Where will you find a good boy, there seem to be none in this city”. And folks, she was 100% percent serious and was 200% not drunk.
And last but not the least, a really sweet friend has offered an “I-am-your-slave” voucher which sadly expires by the end of the night. Don’t think I will be able to utilize it to the max but at the end of it it’s the thought that counts.
So yeah! keeping with the birthday spirit, here is wishing myself a great year ahead minus all the un-wanted events and more off better blogging days.

birthday present? sure…! I’ll write a birthday poem for you…
There was once a girl called Sakshi,
Who was smart, witty and foxy.
She even had her own jingle…
Which went…“I wanna stay single!!!â€
But friends and family prayed a lot,
“Hey prabhu…please send someone to tie the knotâ€
One day…she met a Swami.
Who gave her the following bhavishyavani…
“Beta…when u turn 27,
Someone will drop from heaven.â€
Exactly as the Swami said,
a handsome stud dropped straight on Sakshi’s bed!
But the fall made him lose his bheja,
And now he is called…Mr. Juneja.
– now where is my return gift?
