(hehe.. me.. heavy rocker and beer guzzler), but what I observe is this (its just my perception, observation, feeling, logic whatever) - The trick is to keep in touch with people other than your girlfriend or boyfriend. Just dont spend 24 hours everyday with your GF or BF.. keep in touch with the rest of the world too.. No need to let your life revolve around one person. And most importantly, avoid being too cosy in public/with friends around or not. While one might feel good, the rest of the people around normally try to stay away. To a third person, a couple coochie cooing (or anything its called) make them uncomfortable and they think - ok they need time alone, lets leave them alone... even when you genuinely want them to be around. I made the mistake of jumping into a relationship last year...kyunki bahut time ho gaya tha and I had forgotten my own cardinal rule! just came out of it and believe me...single life rocks! And most of my "couple" friends have similar reactions as ur cousin. aur anyway, staying alone doesn't mean being lonely! Mere dil ki baat boli!
