Devil’s Advocate, Mr. Ram Jethmalani
Where there is a criminal there is Ram Jethmalani.
Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani, who is defending the main accused Manu Sharma, has moved the Delhi High Court seeking transfer of Jessica Lall murder case from Justice RS Sodhi’s court.A Division Bench of Justice RS Sodhi and Justice PK Bhasin issued notice on his application seeking transfer to some other court to the state and fixed the matter for hearing on Tuesday.
In the application, he also sought initiation of contempt proceedings against a newspaper, which carried a story saying Justice Sodhi in 2002 rescued from hearing prime accused Manu Sharma’s bail application as he was approached on behalf of Sharma. (With PTI inputs)
Could somebody either hang or atleast throw this man behind bars. I mean here we have a so-called noted lawyer, who has spent most of his time in courts trying to bail out murderers, scam-cheaters and gangsters.
We people so easily jump up and start blaming the laws and its procedures. But what the fuck can the law do when the ones given the duty to carry it forward and implement it in a rightful manner; get busy abusing it and start taking it as some sort of a money-printing dhanda or odd publicity.
This man is far more pathetic than the one he is trying to protect.

We all have a right to express our views. In many instances; it will be against ours and in some; with us. To hear them out is 'decency' but to let them get to you is 'weakness'.

I quite agree with you Sakshi, this man is out of his senses and just trying to gain political mileage he is trying to save Manu Sharma. Today I saw it on TV, in an interview he is trying to say that media has acted in a non sense manner and has done media trial on Manu before the court has given any judgement.

The malaise in Indian judicial system runs deeper than celebrity lawyers out there to defend douchebags. The problems start right at the stage of “investigation” and “evidence collection” - only done to the degree that political bosses want - and continues on to the overburdened court system, witnesses that are threatened and of course the devil’s advocate(s). At some level I respect the fact that everyone should get the best representation possible but that is only premised on the fact that every other part of the judicial system works.

A sense of dismay and shock sets in reading these smug operators like RJ act in the name of justice. Don’t they have a conscience? How do they manage to justify!!
True, the media works its own hype. But, shouldn’t we have a conviction for a murder which has witnesses. If MS is innocent, who murdered JL. Being a noted lawyer, isn’t it important for him to find the murderer instead of defending a suspect??
There are bigger questions while we are on the topic. What can I as an individual do something, instead of just fretting? What shd be done? There are so many protests around, why don’t they change things around?
I believe that whatever we protest, we shd be free of that. I mean if RJ is besotted with his bloated ego, greed, etc, am I free of that? No point in throwing stones while in a glass house.
Mind you,I’m not writing this for others, but myself. (I don’t give away advices, even though I don’t use them anyway!!…pun intended)
Thanks for a brave post that might wake some of us to keep on trying( http://pysocks.blogspot.com/2006/10/lage-raho.html )

Fools and obstinate men make rich lawyers. Fools and the perverse fill the lawyers’purse. The trouble with law is lawyers.
Everyone loves justice in the affairs of another. Justice, but not in my own house.
Random quotations on lawyers and justice!!

Ram Jethmalani has taken up the case of Manu Sharma, alleged killer of Jessica Lal and has lashed out at media for declaring Manu Sharma guilty
even before the Court’s judgement. In fact, this is another instance of the media-hype!
It is true that this murder-case is brought back to trial due to the public
opinion raised by the media —but at the same time we have to allow the
due process of law to go on.
Accused has the right to get the services of an advocate and it is for
the court to spell out the verdict after considering all submissions of both
sides and until that happens, we cannot be questioning the intermediate processes.
If Ram Jethmalani has decides to take up the case of Manu Sharma, we cannot fault him since that is his job & his sole prerogative!
Media is now unnecessarily trying to make an issue out of
a simple non-issue!
Media feel that he should not have taken up this case in view of the
vast public opinion that thinks that Manu Sharma is guilty.
However, the Court will not take into account the views of the people
in the matter. Court goes by the evidence which is produced before it
and the arguments of the lawyers.
Now, even if Manu Sharma is guilty, he is entitled to defend himself
through a lawyer and Mr.Ram Jethmalani is a lawyer who defends a
for that matter any other lawyer to choose his client carefully and go
by the public opinion. It is a lawyer’s right to choose his client.
It is true that rich and influential persons like Manu Sharma are in an advantageous position as they can hire best lawyers to defend themselves
and go Scot free even if guilty while a poor man who is not guilty may not be able to escape punishment because his case is not likely to be defended by
a competent lawyer.

Manu Sharma can buy the police, the court, the judges and all the men who stood as witness. But he can buy the resonating and reverberating voice of a million people and he knows that. The tag mark of he being a killer is etched on his forehead. According to us, he is dead already. The media hype was not to help the court to pronounce him dead, it was just an awakening. The court won’t pronounce him dead without evidence, BUT WE CAN AND WE HAVE!!!!

everyone knows ram jethmalani as a reknowned [notoriously though…ask your parents]. manu sharma is rich and famous….he has connections…..isnt it true that ram jethmalani is the connection. EVEN MR. RAM CAN BE ACCUSED OF PRONOUNCING MANU SHARMA AS “INNOCENT, NOT GUILTY” …LIVE ON TV…WITHOUT THE EVIDENCE BEING EXAMINED……and yes ram has been quite shrewd to tak to sabrina lall and others regarding evidences in this case earlier…as a form of “sympathy”…..SO MR. RAM …WHO’S THE TRAITOR NOW? RU LISTENING….THE CALL OF “CONSCIENCE”.

Jaypee - What part of this statement don’t you understand?
If he is saying that Manu Sharma will be acquitted obviously that will happen ONLY if the court finds him ‘Innocent’ and ‘Not Guilty’.
Nov 7th, 2006 at 5:49 am | #
oh …oh …so mr. jaypee…..tell me one thing….why did he have to “discuss” the case earlier…with sabrina and bina ramani…its like:- A NEW AGENT….getting into RAW and collecting data and resigning RAW to join ISI….to support them with the intelligence inputs of RAW ……………………IF THIS IS “CONSCIENCE CALL”…..better be without a conscience mr. jethmalani or his STOOGES.

Simpson Murder trial in USA was not just a monumental non-event.
O. J. Simpson walked out of a Los Angeles courtroom as free man
due to competent senior council and team of criminal lawyers,
inspite of adverse Public and Media out cry.

A lot late here but if you berate Ram Jethmalani you don’t understand the comon law judicial system that we have in our country. The OJ Simpson defense attorney in US, another country with common law system, best explains the role of the defense as some one who tries the state and the police and pokes holes in their theory.
Interviews with 2 lawyers.

The awakening is indeed a great attempt in reviving the Sindhi culture with the help of Cinema. The performances and direction could be better. The disappointing mattter of concern here is that the movie was released in Bangalore with ZERO publicity. No effort was put in to contact the various Sindhi Associations that could be tapped to ensure that their families have a look at it and create the much desired awareness. After all, Sindhis are the target audiences but no attempt was made to woo them to the theatres, consequently, the movie had audience of 10-12 people most of them people having come to see A movie and not see THE movie. I am still open for publicing the movie for the Sindhis in Bangalore. Any offers?
