For the past couple of weeks Sony channel has been splashing the headlines with the trailers and small snippets of its overly exaggerated version of reality show – Bigg Boss.
Bigg Boss basically a desi-version of a very popular videshi reality show titled ‘Big Brother’ goes on air from tonight. The entire honcho-poncho team of Sony Television has left no-stone unturned in gaining pre-release advantage, so much so that they have already claimed it to be best-ever presentation to come out of the Indian Idiot Box.
For those who are not aware of Bigg Boss’s concept – It’s basically a real-time show where a number of contestants live together for three months and are watched constantly by the installed video cameras in the allotted house. They are taken away from all known communication channels like cell phone, television, radio, etc. Every week a contestant will be voted out by the aam janta via national poll conducted via SMS and other feasible means. The only difference here is that our desi-version will be scanned by the censorship authorities before being aired on the channel and there are no cameras installed in the potty-place. The winner of Bigg Boss walks away with Rs. 50 Lakhs.
Oh! And another big difference, Bigg Boss has (so-called) celebrity contestants where as Big Brother mostly involved regular people.
If you go by today’s Mumbai Mirror – The 13 contesting celebrities are Ravi Kishen (Bhojpuri Amitabh Bachchan), Anupama Verma (one time model and a failed actress), Aryan Vaid (ex Mr. India and daft headed bum), Rupali Ganguly (television actress), Salil Ankola (ex-cricketer and small time actor), Amit Sana Sadh (Indian Idol contestant television actor), Kashmira Shah (Bollywood actress), Deepak Parashar (baba Aadam ke zamane ka actor), Rahul Roy (what??), Carol Gracias (hotty model), Bobby Darling (the best of the lot) and some women named Ragini (Bigg Brother’s secret agent).
But frankly speaking, I have my doubts especially regarding this reality-show’s authenticity.
I mean do they really want us to believe that these guys will be living under one roof for three months, 24 hours a day and that too without their every-where dragged mandali (likes of spot boy, make-up artist, mummy, doggy named Sweetie, etc), I don’t think so. The amount of tantrum pleasures some of these desi-artists get na are enough to give the likes of Brads and Jennifers a serious complex issue.
Is a mere amount of Rs. 50 Lakhs good enough to keep them bounded and confined for full three months? I am sure Rakhi Sawant and Bobby Darling can earn this amount just by flexing their muscles in couple of dance and item shows. And then you have Ravi Kishen, how in the world will this self-proclaimed family man going to live without his twin half, actress Nagma? Most certainly some of these contestants have been offered much more than what meets the eye. On the other hand job-less folks like Aryan Vaid, Rahul Roy and Deepak Parashar may take this as an opportunity to revive their failed acting careers but who the heck really wants to watch them. Isn’t this the primary reason behind their failure!
Just like all pre-film release publicity stunt, Sony bosses stated to the media that all of the 13 contestants will have to undergo HIV tests as precaution because there are chances they will have sex on the show. What the fuck?? Ya right I believe you Mr. Sandiip Sikcand. I guess you have been way-too influenced by your ex co-worker Ms. Ektaa Kapoor. And where in the desh-prem nagri are the so-called women’s organizations and Hindu/Muslim politicians and their moral army who are so-ever ready to assassinate individuals who even dare to talk about sex out-of marriage?
In short, I in full hosh aur hawaas believe that this show will be no different from the other reality shows which have made their appearance on the Indian Television. Just like their counter-parts who are surrounded with SMS controversies this too seems to be faulty and rigged from the top-to-bottom.
It appears more like a lights, camera and action type of a concept to me.

Well, it’s good to learn about the HIV test – better safe than sorry. But hey are we talking about these people having sex around there on the sets of a reality show. Ha! so much to keep the interest of the Censor Board alive in monitoring the shows. For the audience they can enjoy the censored shows.
In a country where even a woman’s relationships outside a marriage attract enough fire – I would love to see what sex outside/before marriage can attract. Producers at SONY should get some checks on the ground realities of the mind-set of the Indian viewer.

Hun, next time you decide to leave anonymous comments some place, remember that the gravatar image is a dead give-away. [* edited * Seems to be related to Rakhi Sawant and Family].

A lot of the other reality shows also face accusations of tampering or being dishonest. Typically in places where reality shows have come up such as in the US, any wrong-doing has been exposed sooner or later. And with the relentless media appetite for juicy stories, any frauds in this show will also get exposed.

Oh, so just because its on Indian TV, it must be rigged and of course, the contestants will just pretend to stay in the house.
Sorry but I think saying such things even before the show began shows your double standards.

Raj – Anyone who knows the in-side workings of the television will excatly understand what I have written. Never have I said that overseas television channels do no hanky panky…I can’t simple because I don’t know.
But here I am certain. Then again we all are entitled to our views – you to yours and me to mine.

3 months , 24 hours a day… what?? are these people fools. what about their shooting etc. and Rakhi sawants missed stage shows… etc etc.. man.. they are losing too much money for those 50 lakhs. .
naah not possible.they will be allowed to slip away for a few hours.. like we “paid” the security guy at our boys hostel to allow us late nights. (yeah i m a corrupt mean fellow)… Well not exactly paid, but treated him to a peg of Bacardi or Smirnoff sometimes. Bichara kitna desi piyega, kitna Mcdowell piyega..
