Result of Sena’s dadagiri

Inspite of being a block-buster hit in Mumbai city it seems Lage Raho Munnabhai’s emphasis on Gandhi’s philosophies has had no effect on the in-famous Shiv Sainiks.

Their yesterday’s fiasco at Shivaji Park is its perfect example.

The first major Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)-Sena showdown after Raj parted ways with the Shiv Sena early this year, was triggered following a dispute between the student’s wing of the two parties over pasting of posters in the area.

For close to three hours, the area around Sena Bhavan turned into a battleground as Sena supporters and Raj loyalists pelted each other with stones and soda bottles. Over 30 people, including five policemen, were injured in the clashes.

Tension had begun building in Dadar since morning with Sainiks alleging that MNS workers had torn posters bearing Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s image. In

retaliation, Sena workers tore posters bearing Raj Thackeray’s pictures.

One would think the apparent level-headed senior leaders of the two parties would straight-away get down to calming the situation but as usual they catered only to their self-centered egos and not the Mumbai public.

Senior leaders of the two parties met at Hotel Manor, located next to Sena Bhavan, at around 3.30 pm. However, far from sorting out things, there were clashes at the meeting itself and Sandeep Deshpande, an MNS supporter, was roughed up. Later, a group of Sainiks marched to Rajgadh, the MNS’s office, and pelted stones. MNS workers retaliated and soon the area turned into a battleground.

And as usual it was the aam janta who got assaulted instead.

Shops and business establishments downed shutters and devotees at the Swami Samarth temple, opposite Raj Thackeray’s office, remained stranded for over an hour. At the time of filing this report, an uneasy calm prevailed in the area with three battalions of Rapid Action Force, five battalions of State Reserve Police Force and Riot Control Police maintaining a vigil.

Shiv Sena’s distributive behaviors is a known phenomena for us Mumbaikars but what makes it even worse this time round was the involvement of Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Since most of the MNS party members are ex-Shiv Sainiks, Mumbai life becomes even scarier because now we have to watch out for not one but two forms of hoodlumgiri.

And still they expect us to hand them the political throne.
