52 and still Rocking

Ravishing Ms. Rekha

Some people (mostly old folks) say that “Life begins after 50″ and I guess Rekha is a prime example of that; she turns 52 today.

Rekha is one of those very few Indian women celebrities whose age barely manages to catch up with them. Even at this age, she shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to hogging the lime-light with her expensive Kanjeevarams Saris, flowery gajras and those (very) filmy jhumkas.

Just couple of days back I watched a news report which basically discussed the differences between Rekha’s awesome role of Umrao Jaan and the re-make of the same movie, this time starring Ashwariya Rai. When they showed movie clips of both the movies, side-by-side I couldn’t help but think that this woman could so easily display those ‘oomph’ characteristics, which Ashwariya Rai could never manage to do even if she won 10 more Mr. World titles.

She is probably the only actress in the history of Indian cinema who has managed to bring in so much variety in her career as an actress. From enacting the role of Shanno (a gullible village girl) in Mr. Natwarlal to sexy seductress, Zohrabai in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. From a brattish Manju in Khubsoorat to simple, next door kind-da girl called Chandini in Silsila. Not to forget her power-pact roles of a widow in film Baseraa and a revengeful wife in Khoon Bhari Maang. She even made her presence felt in special appearances or item songs in films like Jaanbaz and last years blockbuster Parineeta.

Though her personal life never took-off the way her career did, she still managed to not let it effect her devotion and dedication towards Indian cinema.

Still from flim Umrao Jaan

Today when her co-actresses are busy resorting to skimpy clothes, overly glamorized lifestyles and countless numbers of plastic surgeries, all just to make their mark in Bollywood, she on the other hand still manages to cast an eternal attraction and stay forever young in the minds and hearts of us, Movie lovers.

So here is wishing the lady many more glorious years ahead with just one request. For Almighty’s sake please STOP referring to (we know who) as Him.

I thought that was jhanbujh ke kiya hua mishtake :D
She has grown boring and so is the name of her spelling :) , doesnt deserve to be spelled right

As far as Rekha is considered she still the Jeevan Rekha for Half the men of my father’s generation ;)

Just look as today’s “so called” abhinetriyan…how can you compare somone so Boring as Isha Dayal to Hema Malini

From that I don’t like Rekha that much, for me Hema Malini the best :)

Desh: As far as looks are concerned I definitely agree with you that Hema Malini is much better, but as far as acting is concerned…sorry friend…there is no comparison between Rekha and Hema as Rekha is infinitely better. Hema was always very wooden. I must add though that Hema was a very good dancer. Some one was telling me the other day that Ash is also a very accomplished dancer as she also took classical dancing lessons, even before she became Ms. World.
