An Irish-Georgian artist, Katie Melua and her five-member band have set a world record for the deepest underwater concert, held 303 metres under the sea inside the hollow leg of an offshore North Sea rig in the Norwegian sector.
The band performed non-stop for 35 minutes inside the Troll A platform.
“This was definitely the most surreal gig I’ve ever done,” Melua said in a Statoil statement.
The record was confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records.
In order to carry out this feat, Melua had to undergo survival training to learn to pull herself from a submerged helicopter and to dive 30 metres into the sea.
Now this must have surely been one heck of a performance.
