Pesty Bubbly - Yeh Dil Maange More
They are at it once again.
The Centre of Science and Environment on Wednesday claimed that 11 leading soft drink brands have pesticide residue.
According to the CSE, soft drinks available in India have a cocktail of three to six pesticides. In a study of 57 random samples of 11 soft drink brands from 25 different manufacturing plants of Coke and Pepsi spread over 12 states, CSE claims to have found pesticides on an average 24 times higher that the Bureau of Indian Standards norms, which have been finalised but not notified.
The levels that the CSE has found are even higher than what they found in 2003.
The samples show a cocktail of 3-6 different pesticides and the presence of carcinogens and neurotoxins at levels much higher than BIS standards.
Moreover, even a banned substance like heptachlor was found in 71 per cent of the samples.
The average level of pesticides found was 11.85 parts per billion, while the standard is 0.5 parts per billion.
I guess it’s time for the soft-drink giants to shell-out some more moolah (no not for advertising) to bribe their way thru our government agencies.
Last time it was the BJP who took advantage of the situation and now it’s the current ruling party’s turn to warm up their pockets.
And guess who else is involved in the similar scandal; it’s our beloved Cadbury Schweppes.
Apparently, Cadbury bars (in Europe) have been contaminated with a rare strain of Salmonella. As a result, one million chocolate bars were pulled from the shelves.
On second thought, they should export these infected bars to India and organize a huge bonanza sale. Why, you may ask?
Well we could have infected Cadbury with Cola drink made of Pesticide. Problem solved na.

We all have a right to express our views. In many instances; it will be against ours and in some; with us. To hear them out is 'decency' but to let them get to you is 'weakness'.

Something which did not generate much attention was the news of pesticides in bottled water. What the heck, I can just drink the tap water for free instead of paying for the bottled water. And I wont be surprised to know that the tap water might be cleaner than the bottled ones.
Anyway, I hardly have colas or lemonades, except with rum/vodka, and that is quite far between. Atleast the alcohol will kill the germs, dunno about neutralizing the pesticide.

Shadows - It’s all a bloody gimmick. Just a way of scamming money of these MNCs. Won’t take long for this to fizzle out again as always.

Quite true actually. Agree. Bottled water companies cannot pay that much as the cola companies can. I wonder if pesticides are present in beer
I think Vijay Mallya can afford to pay them well.

Shadows - Oye Yaar now don’t get Alcohol into this….it’s a very sensitive subject for me and I am sure many others. Even if it has live-worms floating around…do we really give a damn.
Ahh!! Can already think of myself sitting at a bar tommorrow night sipping on my scotch-cola shot.

LOLzzz.. hmm i dont think you can find live worms in alcohol. Alcohol kills them actually. Isnt some mexican drink (related to tequila, but not tequila) supposed to have a worm in the bottle.
Yeah, once the whisky hits, who cares anyway

And who is going to sue the government? They have been providing us with water lashed with a cocktail of deadly chemicals. Has someone ever tested the water supplied through the taps?
Is not it the duty of the government to provide us with clean drinking water?
PS- i am in no way defending the cola companies. My suggestion is they should be asked to import everything including drinking water. It is the elite who drink coke and pepsi.
