7 Blasts in Western Railway Trains Rock Mumbai City |
Most of you must have already heard about the serial bomb blasts that rocked Mumbai city today evening.
I had just reached my travel agent’s office when I was informed about it. Landlines were down and so were the cell phone networks. While on my way back home, the news on all the radio stations was different from one another. But could have never imagined the whole situation to be disastrous to such an extent.
As per Star News -
Mumbai’s heart line, the Western Railway Line had been blown apart by 7 strong blasts across different trains. The first blast occurred in a first-class compartment of a local train near Khar station at 6.25 p.m. Followed by blasts at Mahim, Matunga, Jogeshwari, Borivili, Bhayendar and Mira Road.
The railway police, however, have said there were four blasts on along the Western Railway, while the state police said there were five blasts.
The bombs were targeted at the Rush hour chaos which is usually the scene at every Mumbai station, practically every day of the week. All the bombs were placed in the men’s first class compartments.
The blast blew the train compartment to pieces and several passengers were seen jumping out. The injured have been taken to the nearby hospitals and there have 25 confirmed deaths so far.
The Police were doing their best to move away passengers, who are still in daze and shock of what they had witnessed in front of them.
This un-doubtly has been one of the most cowardly acts by those scrupulous bastards, who don’t even deserve a place among the dead. The depth of today’s catastrophe will only be a bit clear as hours pass by.
My city will surely re-cover but this bruise will stay with us forever.
God Bless and Be Strong.

[...] More details are on various local blogs. There’s been the inevitable traffic chaos (Mumbai has one of the busiest railway systems in the world) and unsurprising responses from Pakistan’s government and India’s opposition party, but it is slightly worrying that the Indian PM has announced he’ll “take all possible measures to … defeat the forces of terrorism”. Little more than a rapid populist reaction, sure, but do I sense shades of the G.W. Bush school of anti-terrorism? [...]
