Height of Innocence - Marco Materazzi

Materazzi explains as to why his remark towards French captain Zinedine Zidane could not be racist.

I did not call him a terrorist. I am not a cultured person and I don’t even know what as Islamist terrorist is.

Ya, we believe you Materazzi (not).

Reminds me of a certain Shayan Munshi. I dont know Hindi.

By the way, Sakshi. You seem to have taken that incident to heart, like most Indians who are Zidane fans. Passing remarks is very common in football, and its not like Zidane never does it. You would be highly mistaken to think otherwise. Zidane too has a history of verbal assaults on others. Zidane is no goodie goodie boy. 14 red cards in his career reveal how short tempered he is. He really should not have lost his cool. Where was his good nature etc when malouda and henry dived and got free kicks against italy and portugal.

Such comments do happen, and its just that zidane lost it at the wrong time. This is not the first time this is happening and nor is it the last time. By the way, the Aussies (whom you favoured a lot) are the worst of the lot. The most racist and abusive players on the field. Wonder what do you have to say on that.

Coming to cricket. Even Brian Lara(the crybaby) does it, and so did sarwan to mcgrath.

I have no inention of defending Materazzi, but if what he said about Zidane’a arrogant comment was true then I can’t help to say it
was Zidane who deserved that butt-head. You know, hubris was one the main reasons of human punishment

No matter what a good player Zidane was, he was far from being innocent. Having 14 red cards, some of which were for punching Desailly, stepping on his oponents leg who was laying on the grass during ‘98 World Cup (well…imagine someone stepping on you with those cleats!), butt-heading (again!!!) Kientz’s chin so hard (when he was playing in Juventus, and which was even protested by Juve fans!). He had cried before Galatasaray-Juventus match not to got to Turkey by claiming that their life would be in danger in Istanbul (because the relations between Turkey and Italy were far from being good), yet after a short while he didn’t hesitate to have a summer holiday in Antalya - a Mediterranean city of Turkey:)

There are some people who are rebellius, naughty, tempered, enfant terrible, etc etc etc… Yet you still like them, or can endure them, or by disregarding how terrible they are you can simply focus on their work, because they don’t hide themselves, they are as themselves, they don’t pretend to be good guys. And there are some others who pretend to be nice guys. And for some reason Zidane remind me of the latter. Which one do you prefer?
