French Beings

Well this weekend seems to be one of the best for the French folks atleast when it comes to sports.

At one end we have, ace French Tennis player Amelie Mauresmo getting ready for her battle against Justine Henin-Hardenne for the Wimbledon crown. Undoubtly it’s going to be a tough match to win for either of the two players since both are fighting to tag a first Wimbledon title in their kitty.

Mauresmo who started her career in a dream-like style in the Australian open, lost her pace somewhere in the middle, especially after her heart-breaking loss against Serena Williams in the 2003 French Open quarterfinals; where she was booed off by some arrogant French fans.

But she seemed to have over-come her previous mis-fortunes; a fact which has been evident with her nerves-of-steel and amazing performance in the on-going Wimbledon series.

Currently ranked at No.1, Mauresmo surely won’t let this opportunity slip by and for Henin-Hardenne - it won’t be a walk in the park….just like her Semi-finals match.

And on the other hand…we the biggest match of the year.

France vs. Italy in the World Cup Football finals. Yes! I did say that I won’t be watching the remaining matches after my favorites Germany was thrashed out by the Italian team, however I would just like to make it clear that I would be a wee-bit happy if France wins.

Two reasons for supporting the French team – First I really like Zinedine Zidane and feel that he truly deserves the victory as a farewell gift.

And secondly, I just don’t like the Italian Team.

So here is wishing the French Players all the very best and hoping that this weekend turns out to be one of the most memorable one for them all, including their fans.
