Water

Well if you have been watcIthing the news then this won’t come as anything new that it was one heck of an eventful day in Mumbai city.

The rains gods are working way over-time, something that our BMC officials always seem to avoid. I left home as usual by 10.00 am, taking some of the in-roads, managed to reach Limca factory in Andheri East. That’s when I received a call from my brother asking me to turn back and head home. Apparently streets in MIDC were completely water blocked and to make matters worse there was no electricity.

So this time round adopting the ‘wise-people’ approach I turned back but that didn’t really make matters that easy for me. By the time I reached Juhu, water was nearly reached knee-high – so I parked my car near Juhu Club and walked my way home, since no rickshawalla could be seen around. It’s really funny, whenever you really need them these guys are just no-where to be found and on the other hand they will be most of the times bumping into your cars.

After reaching home, I was informed that there is no electricity. So that didn’t get me all that excited to be back, anyways its always better than being stranded outside. Thankfully, it’s been pretty breezy so the heat was some-what bearable. It rained heavily through-out the day and I slept thru most of it.

Finally around 6.00 pm, we had our lights and some-life back. The rains have also eased down a little-bit but for how long, who knows.

Hopefully tomorrow things will start to get back to normal – so I hope.

UPDATE

Its pouring heavily since morning but thankfully water had resided in most areas as the rains had eased out last night. But it is still advisable that people don’t leave their houses unless its really urgent. Schools and Colleges are closed even today.

As for me I am at work.

What I like about Mumbai is its elastic nature… No matter what happens – natural or man made problems, the city just goes through life as if those incidentswere an aberration… I dont know how such a chaotic city can get itself together every time… I think that is why I used to love Mumbai…..

Sakshi,

Take care of yourself, girl.

Try some telecommuting (at least until the power goes).
