Mumbai - Submerged City

It’s been raining for the past 3 days now. And the way things are looking, I guess last year’s 26th July incident would soon be a regular episode during the monsoon season in Mumbai city.

Roads are flooded just as they were last year; now seriously tell me did you really believe the BMC when they assured us, Mumbai nagriks that they are prepared this time round.

Buses are slow and so are the trains. Yes! They are moving around now but I really doubt that they would survive the harsh rainfall. Flights have been cancelled, delayed and passengers are stranded outside the airports due to runway flooding; the airport authorities as usual are way too busy to help the needy air-travelers.

However not all things are as bad as they sound, for instance it took me only 20 minutes to reach work, Andheri East from Juhu. The reason is simple - No Traffic. Besides handful of cars, buses and people….the streets are practically empty. Oh yeah! One cannot miss choked up drains, fallen trees, garbage dumps and all the other stuff associated with Mumbai rains, thanks to our ever so (not) efficient BMC.

Well I don’t think but still you might be wondering, why the heck did I bother to come to work on such a rainy day when I could have sat at home sipped a cup of garam chai and had some pakoras. You see, it is my opinion that there are two kinds of people…especially when such situations arrive; the wise ones and the hard-working ones.

Needless to say I fall in the latter category. Whoever said that ‘Being your own boss is the best’ - right now I think it’s the worst thing ever.

Anyways, the MET department has warned of more showers for the next 48 hours or so but to really depend on their word would be like believing in Mallika Sherawat’s sincere acting intentions.

Hopefully things won’t get as ugly as last year, I mean we, the privileged ones might still survive again but others may not be so lucky.

[...] Finding a rickshaw was extremely difficult. Finally managed to convince a guy. Had to take a different route because M.I.D.C. area was badly flooded. I’m surprised how Sakshi manages to travel every single day to MIDC. She has to go through lot more waterlogged areas on her way from Juhu. [...]

Libran - Will surely do so.

Current Condition - The coconut tree outside my house…seems like is in the mood to thrash my bedroom window and plant a kiss on my cheek. :)
