Watching the India-West Indies cricket series is turning out to be quite frustrating for me. It started with the whole Dhoni-Lara episode, and then we had (spoil-sport) Lara walking away with crime and our Sehwag baba getting fined for a silly reason. But watching the 5th day of the 2nd Test match, last night completely ticked me off.
The reason – India did not win, No! West Indians managed to save their butts again, (maybe) a little! Rain Gods did not side with us, ya little bit more!
I am pissed off with the bloody commentators of the match. Now as far as I am aware, they are suppose to be impartial to any of the teams playing but here we had Dean Jones and some ex-West Indian batsman who wouldn’t stop praising Brain Lara’s bloody batting technique.
The only words that were coming out of their damn mouths were of Lara the Best singsong. Agree that he bated enough to save his side but our Boys in Blue were also doing their bit with great effort and thought process and they rightly deserved some words of appreciation. Its just sad that the 4th day was a wash-out, but only if had played even couple of hours that day…maybe it would have been a different story yesterday.
But these very commentators were ignoring all these aspects. They were completely bowled over (literally) by Lara’s adopted batting technique, which they apparently never expected out of a (so-called) flamboyant batsman in today’s cricket scenario. These guys how easily forgot his tactics just couple of days earlier when he was using skills to pressure our batsman.
Its not that I am complaining because I am a sore loser but seriously I have handled India’s defeat with a bag full of aggravation dignity and have always abused our players for their bad performance but yesterday was just not right.
I just cannot understand why the commentators (especially an Indian) always side with the other team to such an extent that they make our players so damn in-competent but if our team wins then it hardly takes them some split seconds to hop on to the other side.
Cricket can be a funny game but at times it resembles more like the dirty game of Politics.

@Sakshi: I can understand how frustrated you are feeling… I have been feeling irritated too… On the one hand, our players did everything they could possibly do to win both matches but just couldn’t pull it off… On the other hand, let us clap for the fighting performance of the WI batsmen for saving their arses not once but twice in a row… I dont know when was the last time India did the same thing twice in a row on such wickets… Apna Sachin toh har baar aise wkts pe lbw ho jaata hai…
About commentators, dont even listen to them yaar… Half of the time, they just talk according to the trend that’s occuring in the game… Like when Ind was batting, the pitch was easy but when WI came to bat, about half-an-hour in to the first innings, the pitch was starting to play tricks… Commentators jo bole, dil pe mat le yaar…

YOu have to be kidding me, people still watch test matches. What a waste of time.

How is it important what certain commentators think or say? Most play it safe generally. Some do slide with the opposition from India or show their bias for specific countries more openly than others. Cricket commentary is generally the worst when you compare with other sports.

Pratyush – I know but yaar its just so damn annoying when you are watching a tight-game and all these people just keep bad-mouthing your players. They are these to give clear prespective and nothing else.

Whatever you say about the genius, isnt going to take his pride back or belittle him. Do you think you know more than the commentators??? He is one of hte most sportive and honest cricketers ever seen.
