(now) Hows that !!

Well they say Cricket is a funny and the current Test Series between India and West Indies is a perfect example.

Our man Virender Sehwag has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for excessive appealing during first Test against West Indies. The incident happened when Sehwag got the wicket of Dwayne Bravo just after tea and ran down the wicket to join his team mates for the celebration instead of turning towards the umpire and appealing.

Sehwag pleaded guilty to the charges infront of ICC match referee Jeff Crowe in a hearing on Tuesday.

Fine, I agree Sehwag violated ICC cricket rules and was punished aptly for it.

But the million dollar question here is; why was Mr. Brian Lara not penalized for his un-sporting behavior, when Dhoni was smashing his bowlers with sixes?

Not only was he placing un-reasonable demands infront of Dhoni and Kaif but he even mis-behaved with the field umpire, Asad Rauf. In his defense, Lara stated…

There were 24 big men at the ground and they could not come to a decision. I thought the spirit of the game was not being kept. We all make mistakes but at the end of the day we all want to uphold the spirit of the game.

Spirit of the game, my ass!!

Whatever may be the reason; Brian Lara at the end of the day did break certain book rules and therefore was needed to be penalized. This is a nothing but a display of double standards by the ICC panel.

These are the times I really miss Sourav Ganguly.

Still remember Ganguly taking off his shirt and swirling it in air after chasing a huge total and winning a one-day against England in England? I am sure, Freddie will never forget that either…

I vividly remember a match between India and SL in SL when India was chasing and Robin Singh was on crease. Our guy was running so fast between the wickets that he was adjudged not out atleast 3 times against the appeals by SL Captain Jayasurya. Fourth time (or fifth time), Jayasurya hit the wickets with his hands while the ball was resting peacefully on the ground and went on to appeal for a run-out. There was no way umpire could have seen that. Robin Singh was given out….

Totally agree with you. This is similar to the incident in SA when Mike Denness had gone bonkers.

Wrote about this thing yesterday at http://amitgoyal.wordpress.com/

Surprisingly, the reason stated for Lara being not punished was.. NO evidence.. LOLz.. (as per TOI). Plus the umpires did not complain.

Strangely enough, nothing about this from Greg Chappell. No statements, no comments.. Hey, come on guru Greg, I thought you were aggressive.
