June 5th is celebrated as Environment Day world over.
The World Environment Day theme selected for 2006 is Deserts and Desertification and the slogan is Don’t Desert Drylands.
World Environment Day is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations encourages worldwide awareness of the environment and boosts required attention and action from countries all over.
The main international celebrations of the World Environment Day 2006 will be held in close collaboration with the Government of Algeria.
Their goal is to give a human face to environmental issues; empower people to become active participants in its development; promote an understanding among communities towards environmental issues; and encourage partnership which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.
