Rape every 1/2 Hour in India

According to the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a woman is raped every half hour and is killed every 75 minutes in our country.

NCRB’s report is based on 2004 data, which also states a distressing fact that crime against children increased by 24 per cent in 2004 over the previous year.

The rise in numbers could also be related to more cases being reported with the respective authorities.

The above figures don’t come across all the shocking; after all we all are aware of the fact that Indian cities are definitely not as safe as we would like them to be for women and children.

Hopefully NCRB’s report would serve a purpose of providing and assisting the concerned departments in installing the much-needed safety measures.

Other stats reported by the NCRB -

A murder occurs every 16 minutes

An attempt to murder every 19 minutes

A riot every 9 minutes

A kidnapping and abduction every 23 minutes

and

Thefts occur almost every 2 minutes

In general, Indian cities have become unsafe for everyone not just children and women.I dread to switch to news channels these days..Some people say it’s the media effect…i feel it was always happening, the media is just showcasing it to their profit…
