Whiles cleaning up an old study cupboard, I stumbled upon my hobby books!!
During my stay in Sydney, to pass the hours, I used to sketch out different cartoon characters from various printed books. I recollect blowing my weeks pay at Office Works (stationary departmental store) buying sketchbooks, pencils, rubbers, etc. Finally I landed up owning a massive collection of drawing books and special carbon pencils.
Can never forget those winter afternoons during semester break - sitting in front of the heater in my comfortable lounge (along with my doggy, Tinku), listening to Enya and scribbling away to glory. Wow! Those were the days of pure pleasure.
It’s been ages since I have touched those pencils; blame it on busy work schedules and my blogging obsession.
My first sketch portrays a poor snake charmer, desperately trying to lure passer-bys into hearing his broken tunes, that way maybe he could earn some fast bucks! But all in vain, poor chap looks all confused and heartbroken! A sad state…out of work…out of money…thereby life is all out of tune!
This harassed man is fed-up of the fly itching his body. I love the little doggy sitting near-by looking all amused at his shirtless master. Poor doggy can’t do much but will sit there until the darn thingy is out….flying away. Or maybe he just wants his owner to experience what he feels like when attacked by tics (Ouch!! or should it be Woof!!)
The third sketch and my favorite amongst all! Reminds me of my childhood, I was an equally naughty child and played some of the most hilarious pranks around. A worm in a jam sandwich….hmm…yum…lol! The expression on the kids face is captivating and very realistic more like the character in ‘Problem child’ or our favorite ‘Dennis’.
Our daily necessity-WATER! No matter who you are and where you come from, water dilutes all the barriers. This sketch depicts a bunch of travelers stranded at a lonely island and is fulfilling their basic needs. Reminded me of a famous Hindi movie ‘Gumnaam’. That was one of the first attempts at suspense movies at the time.
Where is all this water coming from…? Either the poor guy has lost all control over his natures call…ooops…or then he has seen something real creepy in his pants and is sweating it out…not knowing what to do! Well all I can say, ‘Shit happens’.
Hopefully might find some time this weekend to invest in my forgotten passion.
Let me know, what you think ?

And I used to make cartoons, too. They used to be less heavy on art (grotesque stick figures, mostly) and concentrating more on humor (or my idea of it, anyway).
Then, one day I happened to stand before the mirror for longer than 5 minutes, and realized that pencil and paper were a waste of time.
Now I repeat the ritual every morning and tell myself, “This is MUCH better…” (winks)
