Fun…frolic…laughter…excitement…best describes the Punjabi ‘Sangeet Ceremony’. Amongst the four to five functions that grace a Punjabi wedding, this is one of the most important and liveliest functions of all.

The Sangeet not only comprises of different dance performances by the bride and grooms families but also celebrates the ‘ring ceremony’ or the ‘engagement ceremony’ before the final vows are exchanged.

The ceremony begins with drums playing loud and trumpets blaring in the ears signifying a welcome for the groom’s family by the bride’s family. Relatives from both sides pour in to dance, matching steps to the boisterous music. The more each side dances the better is the competition. Both sides have the winning edge.

It’s the time to Disco

Punjabi da puttar’s and their soni kudi’s dance till they wanna drop dead, colorful chunaris with low-back cholis and beautiful lehengas, ladies dancing with their men teasing them is all the excitement that this ceremony holds. It makes the heart yearn for more and wish that the evening never ends.

In spite of the traditions and culture booze pours in like water, come-one come-all, everybody drinks to their hearts content, which makes the function even more livelier and robust.

A Sangeet ceremony is an experience of a lifetime. It starts off with a bang and ends with aching feet, hoarse throats, bad backs and of course a longing for another one of its kind?..

Wish so badly that they would last a wee-bit longer…..

pundiyan- is a plural female derivative
