Women’s Day – Not for Me

8th of March is known as International Women’s Day. Today women are supposed to be celebrated all over the world, for their courage…struggle…inner strength…beauty…etc.

Even here at home, whole day long TV channels have been busy filling their time slots and pockets by show-casing women celebrities, handing awards out to them for the achievements. Frankly speaking, don’t these celebrities get enough media coverage that even today there are the ones who hogg the lime-light. Newspapers and Magazines follow the same example of the TV channels…piling their pages with women product advertisements and interviews of famous men, giving (so-called) handy tips on how to make the women in ones life feel special.

But seriously speaking, can we really afford to celebrate such a day. I mean, just look around….women in this country still have a fuckin long road ahead. Even in metro cities, women have to fight for their own space. A model is shot dead in front of 100 people, still the killer walks free, a young girl is raped in the hands of law..just for strolling in the park with her friend, a women is ridiculed and humiliated for talking about sexuality, another one is embarrassed and issued death threats by religious groups for wearing a short skirt. We can’t even begin to imagine the sorry state of women is small states and villages.

With all these appalling incidents happening around us, do we really have anything to celebrate for?

Some think that by making choices available for women, they are solving our problems. But our society tends to forget the most important thing and that is ‘respecting’ our choices. How about letting us create our own space, our own identity. Without all this, Women’s Day Celebration would never achieve it’s true purpose.

Guess I would have to wait a long while, till I can actually get myself to celebrate 8th of March. However, I sincerely hope that it happens in this life-time.

HI !

My wishes to all Women on this day !!!

Well, i guess, this day (in india and alike nations) is not meant for the women actually, but yes, it is for the women who can be shown on TV or P3 easily.

Hardly any1 knows what this day is meant for?

A lot of issues still remain where they have been and will be, for ages.

I feel so sick when i see a woman being ‘harrassed’……..woman of 21st century.

Jessica Lal’s case speaks for itself, thank heaven that PM / Pres. are commenting something on it.

Thanks to all the women who brought their voice to foreground.

SO, i guess this Women’s Day (india) 2006 , we must set an example by bringing her killers to justice,
and begin the fight to empower women, with the powers she has been blessed.

Hey ‘Woman’ wake up, no man is gonna help u , take the first step urself, all you get together and make
Women’s Day really meaningful.
