Justice for Jessica

As most of you are aware by now, on the night of 29th April seven years ago, a young model Jessica Lal who offered to act as a celebrity bar-tender was shot dead at a party in Tamarind Court (a newly opened bar then, in South Delhi) for refusing to serve drinks to a guest who landed up at 2 am, way after the bar was closed. This unfortunate incident took place in a ‘high class’ gathering where most of the guests were VIPs, businessmen, top industrialists and celebrities who showed up for the party thrown by Delhi socialite Bina Ramani and fashion designer Malini Ramani. More than 100 people were present that night and most likely had witnessed the death of an innocent women.

However, prime accused Manu Sharma, son of serving Haryana minister Vinod Sharma, walked free along with eight others after the additional Sessions Judge S L Bhayana said that there was no evidence against the accused and the prosecution had failed to prove its case.

The case has put our judicial system in the spotlight and the heat is on for a re-investigation.

Now the Indian Drama and Entertainment Company, a Mumbai based theatre group that deals with social issues, is staging a play called Justice for Jessica to keep this issue in the spotlight and raise awareness among audiences.

According to this Mid-Day report, Justice for Jessica will open with Jessica’s murder, but in the end, all the accused in the case will be punished.

Looks like the time for Indian awakening has come….It saddens me to see as an Indian that the system that was made for us, makes a mockery of us.The whole of delhi knows who killed jessica lal and yet we stand tight lipped.are we a nation of cowards?the system is made by us and for us…so who are we fooling…we can all come together and throw the system…if only every individual was to rise and feel that they could make a difference…i hope the rally tomorrow at india gate at 5.30pm brings about the hurricane that is needed to wake up the youngsters and throw away the corrupt politicians…we have had enough!
