what you say is absolutely right. Going by what IndiaCorporateWatch tries to say, a day will come when no girl would be asked to walk on the streets and meet guys (even if it is their professor)…

Every girl can be equipped with GPRS so that their parents can track where ever they are!!! With technology improvements, there should a switch to press to alert police when they are attacked.
But if its sex of choice, please do not accuse the guy of rape…

I have specifically said that “Date Rape” is a cultural import from the west
as there is no consistent precedent or history of such acts being commited
and labeled as such here in India until now…

I am only telling you date rapes were uncommon until some years ago
because the concept of going on a date did not exist here in the east
Not until western influences arrived..

I hope we can differntiate between “rape” and “date rape” ?

We are only discussing the specific subject of “date rape” here not the subject of ‘rape’ the scope of which is
much wider

Nowhere have I denied rape occurs in India
Nowhere have I said people should not go out on a date
Nowhere have I said Indian culture is progressive and
doesn’t treat women like shit.

Solving the problem at root will involve tackling the places where these occur like
nightclubs,the instrument used(drugs and alcohol),educating the people who face this problem
Nobody here in India has the resolve or incentive to do this

I frankly have no interests in the lifestyle problems of the upper classes

The lower classes whom I hold dear and number anywhere between
500 – 600 million in India have no time for dates.

But Rape is something that affects them and I do hope it will be tackled
effectively in the coming days.
Though I am yet to see evidence that it will happen soon

Radical solutions like the one below must be experimented with to combat rape

Your argument completely ignores the fact that rape is a part of Indian culture – deeply imbibed from years of patriarchal constructs. The only respect given to women is if they are “good mothers” and “obedient wives”. – Not far from respecting cows for similar behaviour! The notion is to understand that people’s rights are being VIOLATED. In India, like most other countries – most rapes are committed by people known to the victim. And it’s not just young girls who are vulnerable, young boys are as vulnerable. You’re telling me that rapes were uncommon 400 years back? Or that rape was unheard of before we ahem.. imported Western Culture?? Culture is a dynamic concept – but damn.. that idea is wasted on you.

indiacorporatewatch – To blame the West for all our miseries wont be correct. Agree Date Rape incidents will occur, but it’s our responsibility to see that they are kept to the bare minimum. Girls need to be more careful during their outings, authorities should check that such drugs ae not handed out by the chemists without prescription…club owners should keep a watch, etc.

men and women never mixed so freely and
consume alcohol together late into the night

Dates was something that the Arabs exported in
large quantities to India and we relished them

But today all that has changed
