Unfortunately sometimes we take it too far..ahhh, actually WAY too far! i mean…look at history..all the evil things that have happened to people – invasion of people’s countries – there is a terrible terrible history and many people still suffer even from the stories their elders tell…people are still suffering from the consequence of racism.
It really is shameful – i just cannot believe that some races have had to suffer at the hands of evil for centuries! it is so heartbreaking that we consider another race to be less superior than our own and YES many many races are guilty of racism – it’s not just white people that are the so-called racists. I am a white Australian and my parents NEVER EVER said anything bad about another race EVER and i appreciate that they were not that stupid to close their minds and treat another human being so badly. It hurts to think another person might have hatred towards me because i’m white or maybe because they could assume that I”M racist without even knowing.
NO RACE IS SUPERIOR – ONLY WISDOM. IF we all just tried to respect other people’s cultures then those ‘other’ culture’s would not feel threatened that you may be driving them into extinction. Yes, it’s hard to get a balance because that’s life. But i think we should all make an effort to learn about other people’s cultures and when people know you respect their culture then they will respect yours. Everyone needs to stop and think why they dont like somebody – love and hate someone for the right reasons not because of their language or their skin tone or different features that are not the same as yours. We sometimes fear what we dont know – like starting a new job, it can be scary at first but once you get to know it you realise there is no problem afterall! if you get to know someone from another culture that you dont understand or maybe have negative feelings towards then you will start to develop respect and love because you have taken the time to make friends with another human being from another culture. It’s all about swallowing your pride and taking the first step to show another person you are not racist and then we can all take a positive step in ending stereotyping. Unfortunately you have to take the good with the bad. No matter what you do – not everyone will be nice to you no matter if you are white, african, asian, arab, indian, russian, french, greek, etc etc. Evil and good live side by side and they will always find their ways to offer truth and lies. Let me tell you a little story…it’s easy to sometimes wonder what a person is thinking about us…for example i went into an asian grocery supermarket the other day to buy some chicken etc and the asian guy looked at me and just slowly walked over to me like he really didnt care to serve me…ok i thought it was rude because you should treat customers with respect and make them feel welcome…a part of me thought ‘what if he doesnt like me because i’m white? does he not like me? what did i do? i try to make an effort to be friendly to people from all races and i live in an area where i live amongst many asians and i wondered maybe was this man rude to me because i’m white? of course the fact is i dont know do i? either way, he didnt do anything wrong and i remind myself there is nothing wrong…maybe if us human beings have enough negative experiences with one particular race then it can cause hatred because no one likes to be treated badly for no reason. So we have to remember not to let one person make us think that all people are like that one person that maybe have treated you badly. So, i accept the fact, who cares what he thinks, racist or not, that is his problem, not mine. We should not let another person’s bad behaviour make us then treat other people badly. I have also met many other friendly asians so we just have to remember we are all human beings. It’s hard to be human. It’s hard to be white sometimes, it’s hard to be african sometimes… sadly, we all suffer from racism and if anyone has experienced it – it hurts…it hurts to have someone hate you for no reason. if worse when people suffer from torture, invasion and many other sick evil crimes. But we cannot lower ourselves to the racist people that live amongst us in our race. Whether it may be a friend, a relative, the media..dont let other’s brainwash you into hating someone for their language, their culture, their skin, their outward appearance. Anyway, i’m just rambling on and on and on.
But we should not forget…we all share the same earth and God never made passports or borders….we are meant to accept each other and love one another – in a perfect world yes. But we should try. Unfortunately some stupid evil people like to wreck the fun for us! But that’s why we can try step out of our shell and try and learn about other peoples cultures. I think it goes along way to step out of your culture and show other’s that you have an interest in them

Some posters have being saying that Australia is racist – do you mean the white Australians or Australia as a whole is racist. If you are referring to white Australians only – does that not make you a racist too?

Every nation on earth has their section of society that is bigoted and narrow-minded. You should feel sorry for those people – they are incapable of integrating – their lives are insular and they are probably scared. Xenophobia is a fear of ‘foreigners’.

If I go to another country – I behave with respect towards the nationals of that country. It is their home land and where they live. Equally, I expect overseas visitors to England to behave with respect towards me – I live in England, it is where I was born. It is where all my ancestors were born. I am English. I certainly wouldn’t react with violence, hatred and racist abuse if someone behaved appallingly in England. I would just have a dim view of that individual.

If you come across people you don’t wish to associate with – then don’t associate with them. There’s absolutely no need to get into a slanging match with them.

Yes – I am white – and I have received more than my fair share of racist abuse here in London from overseas visitors – why should I have to take racist abuse when its my country of origin? But I have never turned round and screamed abuse at the individual who insulted me – why should I lower myself to their level?

If you want to be seen as a decent individual from wherever you come from – behave with dignity, walk away from those displaying racist abuse and if you really don’t like the country you have travelled to – then go to another country that you feel happy to stay in.

If someone is racist towards you and you return with the same kind of language and behaviour – then be prepared to be labelled a racist yourself. Because that is what you are. No different to them.

Australia is no more racist than the US, Great Britain, India, China, Uganda, etc. etc.. No one country on this earth is currently populated by one nationality.

Why stay in a country YOU believe to be racist – isn’t that just daft?

But equally – don’t go to another country and demand that that country’s nationals accept your culture and your way of life whilst you belittle and trample on their beliefs, their way of life, their culture and expect them to make changes that suit you. To do that means that you are initiating racism.

Treat other people as you wish to be treated yourself. Its much harder to be nasty/abusive to someone who is smiling and polite!

Not all Australians are racist. Only a brainles fool who has being kicked in the head at birth would think other wise. But there are many of us who are racist and we do have our many reasons for being racist.

By the way is AUSTRALIAN not asstralian ! !
