Sania pays the price for endorseing ‘Safe Sex’

Just couple of days ago I wrote a post on how the Indian Society uses ’sex’ as a yardstick to measure one’s character. Even in the 21st century there is so much hypocrisy and double standards surrounding ‘physical intimacy’.

Today while going thru the morning newspaper, once again the unfortunate reality behind my post was shoved again in my face.

Tennis star Sania Mirza’s remarks on safe sex, “before or after marriage”, have evoked sharp reactions in her hometown with some calling them “un-Islamic” and others demanding an apology.

A day after Sania backed Tamil film star Khushboo – who has been dragged to court for comments on pre-marital sex – activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) took to the streets at various places and set afire her posters.

A Muslim cleric, who had earlier termed Sania’s on-court dress code as ‘un-Islamic’, also said if she had supported pre-marital sex she would have nothing to do with Islam.

Raising slogans of “Sania down down”, protestors belonging to the ABVP in Visakhapatnam beat her posters with ‘chappals’ and set them afire. They demanded that she tender an apology for hurting Indian traditions by favouring sex before marriage.

“She has hurt the sentiments of Indian people. She should tender an apology for the comments,” said a protestor.

And the whole fuss was over this…..for ‘fuck’ sake give her a break.

Sania was quoted as saying at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in Delhi Wednesday: “So there are two issues here, safe sex and sex before marriage. You don’t want me to tell you that you have to have safe sex, whether it is before or after marriage. Everyone must know what he or she is doing.”

And the reaction from some freakin dumb-headed assholes….

“Her statement is uncalled for. We are a closed and traditional kind of society. Such statements will only send wrong messages to the youth, who are already exposed to many kinds of media like Internet and films,” said Subha, an employee with a private educational institute.

Hameed Ahmed, a student, said: “Her comments are highly condemnable. This is not only against Islam but also our Indian traditions based on high moral values.” “There was nothing shocking when a film actress said that there is nothing objectionable in sex before marriage but a young sports person like Sania has shocked us all by backing such views,” he said.

I won’t waste anymore time, expressing my disgusted reaction towards the two-face members of Indian political parties and public. Sania’s statement simply highlighted the fact of having ’safe-sex’, whether it was before marriage or after. I don’t think she is any-way is endorsing pre-marital sex. I just hope unlike Kushboo, Sania doesn’t give into the demands of these ‘fuck-witts’ and takes a strong stand against them.

The day our political parties and religious groups actually start taking their jobs a bit seriously, maybe then this society would be slightly better to live in…..but for now it just appears to be a distant dream.

UPDATE :

Sania Mirza retires hurt in the current off-the-court match against the ‘useless’ members of the Indian society.

Careful Sania…

Of what you say in public. Or you might land straight into trouble like your elder sister, Khushboo.
Look, whether it’s before or after marriage, people should have safe sex. And about pre-marriage sex, you can’t stop people…

[...] Some were showing Aamir’s interview, clarifying his stance on the Sardar Sarovar Dam subject and on the other hand we had Actor-cum-Politician Shatrughan Singha neither supporting nor disapproving his party member’s demand that Aamir should apologies for his recent statements on the issue. To say that BJP is blowing this whole matter out of proportion and trying to enforce their power on an individual wouldn’t be anything new. In the past there have been several other political parties, religious groups, etc who have restored to un-civilized and at times extremely brutal tactics, just to get their point across and suppress the ones who question their motives. Today’s Times Of India headline, shouted something like, “Aamir dares the BJP“, which in my opinion is utter bull-shit. Anyone who saw the Aamir’s televised interview would agree that he in no way challenged or insulted the concerned political party. Instead he acknowledged that BJP has several respectable and intelligent leaders, who understand and believe that ‘everyone has a right to his/her own opinion’. He also urged the people of Gujarat to support him on the rehabilitation issue and help the needy. It’s sad to see that (some) leading newspapers instead of providing factual information – try and add more fuel to the fire with mis-leading headlines; just to increase their circulation. The most important question that we need to answer is, “Does Democracy truly exists in India?” A country where women are subjected to religious outburst for their choice of clothes, where women have to think twice before expressing their views on sexuality, where students are subjected to Police thrashing because of using their right to protest, where religious groups are threatened by screening of an ordinary movie, where witnesses turn hostile cause speaking the truth is seen more harmful – No! Democracy doesn’t exist here, its only meant to be in our text books, its only an illusion of our imagination. Aamir, I am with you. Our views may clash but like you, I still do believe that each one of us has the right to voice our opinion and we shall not let any damn person take that away from us. Jab saaz hai, aawaaz hai, phir kis liye hichkichaana [...]

[...] Just like all pre-film release publicity stunt, Sony bosses stated to the media that all of the 13 contestants will have to undergo HIV tests as precaution because there are chances they will have sex on the show. What the fuck?? Ya right I believe you Mr. Sandiip Sikcand. I guess you have been way-too influenced by your ex co-worker Ms. Ektaa Kapoor. And where in the desh-premi nagri are the so-called women’s organizations and Hindu/Muslim politicians and their moral army who are so-ever ready to assassinate individuals who even dare to talk about sex out-of marriage? Heh, well said! I was reading (and then wrote about it) this, and I sometimes despair at my own lot for being so stupid, backward and hypocritical.

hmm…whom are these people kidding? They just can’t seem to get sex off their mind, these protesters…and yes we are a ‘closed society’ so that gives us the license to keep our eyes closed!

Outright stupid. Khusboo was dragged into the quagmire only because politicians wanted to malign her ahead of the elections (heard on the Bush telegraph that Jayalalita wasa planning to field Khusboo against DMK’s Stalin)
