South Asia Quake Appeal

Yet, another catastrophe hits the Asian reagion. Yet again, people of the world need to stand together and help their fellow humans to get thru this diaster.

The toll from the powerful earthquake below the Hindu Kush mountains in Pakistan that sent shockwaves across south Asia and reduced cities and villages to rubble is now put at at least 30,000.

Most of the casualties from the quake, which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale, were from Pakistan. One state minister estimated 30,000 people were killed in Pakistani Kashmir alone. In Indian Kashmir more than 600 were reported dead.

At least 50,000 were reported injured in Saturday’s quake. The United Nations estimated more than 2.5 million people were in need of shelter.

The quake flattened dozens of villages. It killed farmers, students, soldiers and schoolchildren, and triggered landslides that blocked rescuers from reaching many areas where bodies lay in the streets.
