Mr. Gorky’s suggestions for ‘Gender Equality’
Off lately I have been writing a bit about Issues and Laws concerning ‘women’ in India. They have been on critical topics such as Child Marriage, Laws Governing Rape, Importance of Marriage Certificate, Domestic Voilence and Women being used as commodity by the advertising media. I have also written on Successful Women, who have become a role model for many, men and women in our country.
Not being too biased or overly feminist, I have also written about how some women are mis-using the law for their own selfish needs.
However, some individuals think that my views are mostly in-favour of the feline (maybe they are, but I feel for the right reasons). And have received some-what dis-approving comments, for the above mentioned posts. If I wanted, I could have simply deleted or edited these comments but I did not do so since I completely believe that everyone has a right to their views and should not be stopped from expressing them.
This morning I get an e-mail from an individual named ‘Maksim Gorky’, who it seems has put in loads of effort to come up with 29 suggestions that would be helpful in ‘Improving Gender Sensitivity in India’. After reading his ’so-called gender equality’ suggestions, I was simply appalled. I wanted to e-mail him back, with counter suggestion to each of his 29 points but then I thought, it would just be a waste of time, since I have addressed most of these issues in my posts.
Anyways, If you have time do read his views. I have pasted them in my post (along with my reply) not because they are worth reading but simply for the reason that this person has put in so much time & effort in writing them AND afterall he has a right to be heard.
I won’t write any further on this e-mail, as I don’t want you to judge it based on my views and opinion. I am sure most of you out there are smart enough to differentiate between right & wrong, fair & un-fair, logic & stupid, baised and non-baised views/opinions.
Ps…i did check out the websites he has mentioned in his mail and I am compelled to say that they were equally dis-appointing as his e-mail.

How to Improve Gender Sensitivity in India…here are some suggestions…..
1) Women must not be imprisoned even if they kill. They need to be put in reformation homes.
2) As soon as a woman marries, she must get 50% rights onto husband’s property.
3) Large scale single parenting by woman must be encouraged with maintenance provided by husband. Research shows that children who are not allowed to see their fathers after divorce for years grow up very healthy. In India, Gender Sensitive judges must allow the women to
decide whether she allows the father to see the child after divorce or not.
4) Any violence committed by woman against others(including murder) must be considered as done in self-defense.
5) The disparity between life expectency rate difference between men and women need to be brought to the levels of that of developed countries. In India, women live 2.4 years more than men on an average. This difference in life expectency has to be brought to the levels in
US and Europe where women live 7 years more than men on an average.
6) If a man cancels the enagagement, he needs to be punished with imprison up to 5 months. If a woman cancels engagement, she must be compensated with 30% of man’s annual income.
7) Any woman who commits suicide within 7 years of marriage, a dowry harassment or other harassment case against the husband to be put by default. He must be imprisoned for 1 year for not taking care of his wife.
If a woman complains of domestic violence, the man must be imprisoned immediately and bail can only be granted by a court. All the joint bank accounts must be frozen. Woman has to right to stay in the matrimonial home(husband’s house), till she gets divorce. If the women has an adulterous relation, till it is proved (beyond doubt), the husband must allow her to live in his house or must provide alternate accommodation. The typical example for benchmark is the case in movie “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”. Husband is also expected to help the women achieve her adulterous goals. If he can not directly help, then he must provide one third of his salary towards the wife till she marries her boy friend.
9) A man must do half of household work even if his wife is not earning.
10) After marriage, a man must not stay with his parents or allow his parents to stay prolonged period with him. He must allow his in-laws to stay in his house for the same amount of time his parents stay in his house. If he violates these rights of the woman, he can be
imprisoned for not taking equal care of his in-laws.
11) If in-laws of a man “feel” their daughter and they are not properly treated, the man should be thoroughly counselled. If he does not mend his ways, stringent laws be made (even provision for lashing) for rectifying him.
12) The ratio of male:female suicide rates in India to be brought to the levels in west. In India, 50%(about 25000) more men commit suicide than women. This is much lower than the western standards where about 150% more men commit suicide than women.
13) The richer and the more educated the men are, the more should be pressure on them. They should provide the wife with a lifestyle equivalent to their status and they must also spend quality time with family.
14) Women in rural india and poor women suffer due to ignorance and they can not afford legal help. So, the legal provisions must be used only in urban india. The rural women must be discouraged from approaching police or courts as they can not afford to pay bribes. The
rural women (women in villages) must be empowered with better employment and they must be counselled to live healthy life in traditional family system and respect the decisions of family elders. This way, it can be shown that laws on women’s rights are UNDERUSED. That will help the urban women to MISUSE the law and file false complaints. That will give good business to Feminist lawyers and Human Rights lawyers and provide good bribes to the police. Of course, the booty is ultimately settled between police and Women organisations. The extortion for a Techie goes upto 1 lac and for NRI it goes upto 4 lacs. If the techie does not pay up, the NGO must send the police to harass his landlord, friends and boss in workplace.
15) The rural women do not suffer from domestic violence. Hence domestic violence laws must be used more stringently in urban india only.
16) Men had much better life than women since ages. Men fought wars and always had good food in plundered lands when their women remained in hunger.
17) 25% of software engineers are women, so does 50% of medical students. The men whom these women marry must get bigger salaries than these women and must have higher social status than these talented women. Women must always marry up.
18) Men who do not like their wives wearing revealing clothes(including low-jeans) are old fashioned. In stead of divorcing them, their wives must use threat of section 498a (anti-dowry laws) to get the old parents of the man imprisioned, so that men can be counselled to change and learn tolerance.
19) Designers who plan to design revealing clothes for men must be banned for spreading vulgarity. Wearing revealing clothes is a right solely meant for women.
20) All judges who do not follow gender sensitivity and give judgements against women, must lose their right to pension.
21) Crime Against Women (CAW) cells must counsel the men such that men realise that if they do not bend, then their parents,sisters even grandparents can be imprisoned and tortured. CAW cells must also counsel the men not to commit suicide by telling them in detail
various methods of committing suicide. Men committing suicide must always be listed as suicide due to financial reason even if he commits suicide arranging dowry for his daughter.
22) As prevalent in Govt. services, any man accused of harassment against his wife, must be fired from job. Special camps must be set up by govt. in each state for these men to reform. Only hard work can make them learn patience and considerate behaviour. “Work Brings
Freedom”, “Arbeit Macht Frei”. Their property must be confiscated by the state and donated to the NGOs working hand-in-hand with sincere police and benovelant lawyers for betterment of women.
23) Many human rights organisations have created examples of gender sensitivity by championing against giving bail to innocent old and sick in-laws of women who complain of mistreatment. In fact, to iradicate dowry evil in India, these old and sick people must be
imprisoned without investigation so that their sons can learn lessons for not caring the sincere and wise advice of their wives and in-laws.
Even “Amnesty International” has opposed bail to sick and infirm in-laws of a woman as suggested by a gender insensitive former high court judge. 25000 women dying of dowry is a much bigger problem than only 10000 parents of men falsely getting jailed. Only a handful of
old in-laws of the woman have committed suicide due to false dowry cases than the number of women dying in dowry problem. Of course, who know better about “prisoners of conscience” than Amnesty International.
24) Human rights orgnisations have gone a long way fighting against POTA and TADA. Because even terrorists have the right to international law. Dowry evil is much bigger than terrorism. The number of women getting killed by dowry is much more than the number of people killed by terrorists. So, Human Rights Organisations must campaign for continuation of present laws where the old parents of NRIs and Techies are jailed with just one line of complaint from their daughter-in-law. Even if the complaint is false, arrest of old parents of the man sends a clear message to the society which oppressed women since ages.
25) Recenly, many human rights activists protested against the judge who gave a order criticising imprisonment of 3-year old girl child who spent 3 days in Tihar jail with her whole family (facing dowry harassment charges). This kind of organisations need generous
donations by the people who want to change the world.
26) The fight for women’s rights will never end. So, lets campaign for the people in this world to donate for this great cause. After all, woman’s development is human’s development.
27) Many NGOs in India and abroad have collected millions of dollars for causes of women. Because woman’s development is human’s development and women’s rights are human rights. Because of their dedicated actions in bringing in funds has helped in arresting so many
sick and old people in false dowry harassment cases in urban india. Many of these old in-laws of women have committed suicide out of shame when their daughter-in-law got a bargaining position by filing false dowry cases against them. Because of these generous funds donated by many benovalent people in US, these people can commit suicide. Otherwise, these old people are just a social nuisance. What can be a greater social service than to iradicate social nuisance and create social justice.
28) Recenly, an old couple were arrested in Kerala and transported like animals to Delhi on train to face charges of dowry harassment. Even though they never stayed with their daughter-in-law, but it gives a clear signal to the society that its time the dowry be iradicated.
Please donate to all the NGOs and human rights organisaions generously. Research shows that when more and more women live as single parents, that children become healthy. Children of single mothers in US have become great scientists, researchers and social
reformers. The same needs to be emulated in India so that India can develop.
29) Many NRIs have donated generously for the foreign visits of women’s rights activists. These activists are responsible for bringing patriarchy in India to its knees by championing in favour of detention of all people including old and minors against whom a woman complains
of dowry harassment. Of course, it does not matter even if the in-laws never even stayed with the woman and the case she filed is false. What is important is the social deterrent it creates. India Today reports 55% of divorce cases filed last year has women as primary petitioners.
This must increase to 75% in next few years. The more the divorces and single parenting in india, the earlier we will achieve gender equality.
Indians living in US, who run NGOs and donate to NGOs are as truthful as their own President and propaganda based media. Their perceptions are also as accurate as perceptions of an average American. They also want to change and improve the world just the way
US is improving the world. God will certainly give them and their children long happy life. After all, changing the world by funding extremist feminists which leads to arrests “without investigation” of old and infirm is indeed a noble act. Finally, Karma will give us what
we give to others. As sick and old who can not walk properly make rounds in court, God will bless us all for standing for fighting against patriarchy and conducting garrulous arguments with rigid mindsets brainwashed by media in stead of seeing the subtleties in
social issues. Since ages, we know reductionism (cutting, solving and pasting) solved all great problems !!
Those innocent people who got jailed, whose innocent parents died due to legal terrorism, whose innocent sister can not be married because of multiple criminal lawsuits against her, have got nothing more to lose. Today, they take time out of their “multiple court cases” to help and advise those are abused but not yet 498aed. But, they will do everything to bring to book all those people who have lied or are lying all along.

Accidents can happen to anyone. 498a also happens to anyone( including feminists, gender sensitivite people, male feminists, judges, police officials, politicians, actors, techies). There were 50,700 cases of 498a with every case has an average 4 people accused. Judges tell that one in six case is genuine.Even in the study done by Feminist NGO csrindia.org 10% women admitted to filing false cases.How many more are there who did not admit ? Thank you for your email.
You seem to have a perfect knowledge of most of the laws pertaining to women and your ideas on how help in gender-equality in India is simply appalling.
However to me, they appear to be VERY much one-sided. I agree, women in India and all over the world do mis-use the law BUT then don’t men do the same.
It is upon individuals like us, to bring forward the correct and non-biased knowledge to our society via whatever means that we can. Just because few women follow unethical behaviour, you cannot blame the enitire women clan for it. I agree, some women have taken the advantage of law and harrassed men and their families and not that only, there are many mother-inlaws also who harrass their daughter-in-laws over dowry demands (a classic case of women against women).
What I am trying to say, is that we should keep an open mind and not be biased towards a particular gender.
But then again, these are my views….and you have an equal right to follow what you believe in.

Hi,
First time commenting, but I had to. I got the same mail a few days ago. This maksim person once commented on a post I wrote about being a feminist, so I’m guessing that’s where they know me from. This e-mail is truly appalling. And it is supposed to be sarcastic, making it even worse. I was tempted to post about it, but I thought it would only serve to air these opinions, which I did not want.
PS: There seems to be some kind of problem with commenting in Firefox. Every time I click on a field, the page is reloaded, but the cursor disappears. Works fine in IE, though.

I think Mr Gorky has a valid point. All those who are slamming him about his views about women’s laws should understand that more and more educated men and their families are now at the receiving end of the draconian laws like 498A of Indian Penal Code which ensures that the accused is arrested immediately without any chance of being heard. Just ask any neighbourhood policeman about this section then you would know what it is like to be 498Aed. It is one hell of a law drafted by some moron that shuts off all oxygen.

Why can’t all of us including the feminazis see the misuse of 498a. If you
want to remain true to yourself, you cannot just escape by saying
that “women are misusing laws, but so do men”. A Crime is crime
without boundaries of sex, age, religion and geography. Can you
please comment on why the misuse of 498a has increased 800% in Delhi
itself over one year? Why Andhra has 3801 498a cases registered in
this year so far only? There has to some logical reason? What is it?

Debabrata : Thanks for your comments. I wouldnt have bothered replying to them, BUT since you have commented TWICE, so here is my bit.
If you think we are “feminazis”, than that makes you a “Male chauvinist”, since your comments indicates so. The stats that you present regarding 498a, to be frank I don’t believe you. And you can’t balme me, afterall how can you expect me to believe someone who comments twice using two different FAKE e-mail ids. Why?? Are you not confident of your own views???
Since the introduction of 498a, it had been always more in favour of the husband, after efforts and struggle by many women & women groups…just recently the 498a rule has been expanded for the betterment of the women-kind…still there are many loopholes in it. Today when it is slightly in favour of the wife, people like yourself are crying over it, calling it ‘un-fair’. Where was your sense of gender quality..when the very rule was un-fair to the distressed wife.
You talk only about Delhi & Andhra, what about other states and cities..where women are driven to death, raped, harrassed by their husband every second hour, cases that never see the light of the day. I can ask you a million more questions, but it would be of no use, since you won’t have a LOGICAL explaination for them. NO CRIME CAN BE LOGICALLY JUSTIFIED.
I agree, crime is a crime without boundaries of sex. But sadly this view does not come across by Mr. Dorky’s email, his websites and Your comments.
To end it all, I will just say that you maybe in some points are right. But your way of approaching the subject is completely WRONG. It’s like the reason you are fighting for some-what gets lost in your whole anti-women sentiments.

In country where Feminists claim to fight for Gender Equality They do not raise a cry against
1. Women pay less Taxes then Men at teh same salary levels
2. Women are allowed to force a man in mariage if ther eis a consensual sex beofre marriage using rape law threats
3. Women are given lighter sentences example the rajiv gandhi killer the women involved was pardoned while the other were hanged
4. Women pay less property taxes in some states.
5. Wifes misuse criminal Laws . Have you come accrss any husband usng criminal laws against husbands
6. Women marry for lifestyle
7. 2 times more false cases of rape exists then real cases and even many of the real cases of type 2
8. Women are legally entititled to SOWRY
9. Women are legally entitled to be taken care of by osme male while men are are not
10. 2 times more men are vims of treal violent crimes ( not the verbal and mental harassment type o bullshit ) yet cities are looked at safe for women
11. Thre is 50% jump for sucicide for married men non for women yet the presumption in law is only for suicide by women

explained to them. He probably fell due to heat, exhaustion and tight
outfit,” said Satish Seth, while talking to TOC.
Nitin and Mamta liked each other and were going around, said Seth.
Even their teachers and other students knew about their love-affair,
he added. The Seths asked the family to re-consider their decision.
However, all efforts failed.

You don’t have the dare to publish the reports where WHO(UN) is saying that daughter-in-laws are misusing the law to send her old and innocent in-laws to jail. You don’t have the courage to publish the Consulate of US Advice which says due to misuse of 498A lots of their citizens are facing problem.
You don’t have the heart to accept what Supreme Court has said in its direction that 498A has become “Legal Terrorism”. May be you are one of them you wants to send innocent peopl to jail and destroy families in India.

All things have to be seen from the real facts.
Let me start with founding statement of the Indian Police Force.
“Sada Rakhashan , Khal Nigranhya ” It means first protect the innocent then punish the guilt. Please do not forget the order.
Now let us meet few of age old mothers, sisters, distance relative of husbands, age old fathers and husbands. Who get charged under 498a and this being non-bailable, cognizable offence they all are arrested as soon as soon as the complaint is received, this without verification of geniouiness of the complaint or motive behind it. During this arrest and bail process many parents are losing there lives , get severe mental disoders, many pregant sisters are losing there unborn childs. After the due trail of years together in court. Court find 98% of these accused were infact innocent. Then who has to be balmed for making such biased law, under which accused get punsihed befrore proving the guilt. We totaly condem, oppose and give our lifes to stop this killing and harrasemnt to woman, we are the man lost many lifes in protecting woman from harrasment then woman. the killing, harrasmen for dowry or rape of woman. After they all are our dear mothers, sisters, friends and one of them is dear wife. the dear wife whom who commit all the life and give our onw life for safegaurding them and there Virginity.
When out of 98% mens try to save and safeguard woman and only 1 or 2 % men do such bad act. Why the complete mens society is blamed as worng. False punsished using IPC498a and Evidence act 304b before proving guilty.
these 98% of innocent and good men needs to be hounoured and credited for there good work. These people should not blame and assume all men and womans reatives of husbands are wrong and bad and punish them due to these 2% men before proving there guilt as done under IPC 498a, DP Act, DV Act and Evidence Act 304B.

Vina Raj - Somehow it’s just to hard to digest the fact that crimes against women are committed by ONLY 2% of men. If that was the case, then in that case our society would have been a better place to live in. The point remains, is that even today 8 out of 10 cases of domestic violence/rape/dowry are actual facts and not made up by some scrupulous women as claimed by some SIF individuals.
I agree (and have never denied), that there are women out there who are using the law for their own personal gain, BUT they donot represent the entire abused women population.
The problem that I have with Mr. Gorky’s mail and the SIF’s website is that they seem to generalize everything that comes in front of them. As in, if few so called “feminists†have abused the law, they tend to believe that entire women population stands by such people. Their website is named “Save Indian Familyâ€, but they have conviently eliminated the “wife†from this family.
I am repeating myself here again, the only thing that comes across their views are “anti-women sentiments†and their “cause†is completely lost init. By bombarding blogs, with same comments and views (women bashing) by different individuals is not serving the purpose, cause frankly no-one takes them seriously.
I have nothing against Mr. Gorky, but maybe if he and others with him start thinking from a neutral point of view maybe then others will start taking them a bit seriously.

So, what do you suggest should be the punishment for these women who misuse law for personal gain. Which will be a deterrent, and further misuse of “Legal Terrorism†Law will be under control. Even though facts shows that even though mens sucide rate soar after marriage and not women we still want to balme the man .
even though Karnataka Judiciary’s responsible analysis shows that at teh minuimum 44% of the cases are thoroghly unjustified we still want to bury our head to the massive scale of misuse & depend on the CSR studies where in 10% of women admitted to filing false cases ( 1/6 or 1 in 7 will admit wont they ? ) again it comes to 60% to 70% as misuse.

I think 498a getting misused due to incresingly urbanization and westernization.
due to this people are becoming more materialistic, instead of thinking welfare of family,
they think to exploit situation. both groom and bride are not ready to adjust compromise.
the only difference in between them is that bride has law like 498a in favor.
so immature brides without thinking of consequences, they just file 498a.
we should teach brides about responsiblity and awareness of India’s family system.

Why do urban women feel so much under attack. I mean this could probably be the best time ever to be a women. Modern, yuppie women are free to do anything they want, have their own sexual preferences, compete at the topmost level, marry late, early or not at all. So, why do I meet so many career women who are always bitching about how unfairly society treats them. The problems these women face are no more than faced by men in our urban society, if only in a different form. So why the cribbing.

I recently participted in Debate about “lealisation of prostitution ” i realised that it is in favour of feminism.
prostitution is personal choice and it be legalised. Morality is just another tactics of male dominated society to
not allow woman freedom to earn and live independently. Similarly lot of sex workers are suffering because of this male biased law benefiting male pimps etc.

Now coming back to our issue that mainly revolves around the career orientation.Everything is destined and shall work properly if its working according to the law of nature which defines its functionality. Men are supposed and known as bread earners of the family and woman as homemakers. Even supreme court of india has defined men as bread earner of the family.So a man is supposed to work and earn and a woman to make an ideal household.
Now bonus points to be considered. if a man is helping the lady in the household chores as long as it doesnt hurt his primary objective i.e. earn money, its a bonus point and not a compulsion.
Similarly, if a woman is earning as long as it doesnt hurt her primary objective, i.e. make a home, its a bonus point and not acompulsion.
Now where the conflict starts. Woman think men are envious of their earning and get jelous when they supersede them in career. ha haha!!!!!!! joke of the day, lady!!!!!!
Why should they do that? Men are men and nobody can supersede men cuz that’s why they are called men and not woman. why dont you say its a woman’s word instead ofsaying its a MAN”S WORD?????????? Nature has defined it.

pls. file IPC 498a on such husbands. That is the only solution. It worked wonderfully for me.
IPC 498a is a weapon not only to handle husband but also whole family.
Police (or women cell) are always ready to take 498a case easily as it also benefits them a lot too.
Remember there is nothing to loose even if complaint is false. Many women are living and rich by filing 498a on such husbands.

what is there in 498a? Just a couple of days in jail and then out on bail…….cooolllllllllllll.
If it is a false case it will run 5-10 years and ultimately the guy will be pronunced innocent.Do not give divorce to your wife.The more the case drags the better it is for men.Let it run 10 years/20 years.The guy is finally acquitted.Then put counter case against the wife and family and again make them busy for the next 10-20 years.By that time the wife will be age barred for marriage.If she ruins your life ruin her life also.I am really enjoying fighting for years and years and enjoying Saturday night bash….without wife ofcourse. but will never give divorce nor do I want it as men can get everything you want with money.Women are women’s greatest enemies.Use divide and rule policy and you will find that life is so wonderful.The moment men can know this secret they will see that it does not matter whether the women who is staying under the same roof is his wife or not.Do not pay a penny to your wife and make her run the courts for next 30 years…Guys chill out and enjoy , do not need to pay much except for the amount needed for maintainence but the income you will be showing and the judges deciding upon will be the income shown in your PAN.The rest is all for your live-in partner who will be the worst enemy of your wife.Even live-in partners are entitled for maintainence and residence as par the new DV Act hahahahahahahaha……………………

My Wife has asked for a divorce and with all kinds of false allegations on me, but with Gods grace and elders blessings she failed to prove all the allegations and has accepted that there was foul play in it.
The court has advised that its advisable to close this issue as if we prolong it and have counter allegations our life’s will be wasted. They have advised that both the parties have to withdraw their cases and have a settlement.
